I posted this in the Nico General discussion board, before I realized there was a board specific to Infiniti. I figured it might be more appropriate here. Anyway:

On Saturday, I got a great deal on a 2008 Infiniti G35X. 12,100 miles, Nav and Sunroof for $27,100. The dealer convinced me to buy his extended warranty offering from "Portfolio" (which I think is TheWarrantyGroup)--covers "just about everything, except for maintenance items" for 7 years, 75,000 miles (from the "In Service" date, which amazingly for this car is 12/08), for $1,350. I normally would have shy'd away from the dealer's offering, but it seemed like a fair deal, so I went with it.

Uuugh. Since then, I've been tirelessly researching alternative warranty policies, and not really knowing if I can cancel the dealer's extended warranty and go with someone else if I wanted to. It looks like, from preliminary quotes, that I can get the Infiniti Elite Extended plan, with Protection to 6 years, 84,000 miles, for only $100 more than the used car dealer's warranty (as quoted by InfinitiWarranty.com). Anyway, I've got a number of questions I'm hoping some of the fine people here can help me with

1. I didn't know that Nissan can't service my G35 under warranty. The closest Infiniti dealer to me is 300 miles away (Oklahoma City). Because of this, I have horrific thoughts of driving 300 miles, sitting there for 4 hours before they finally say a part needs to be ordered, thereby forcing me to drive 300 miles back home, only to have to return when the part comes in to do it all over again. Any experience here? Are Infiniti dealers typically a step above when it comes to customer service?

2. I live in Texas. I THINK I've read that I've got 30 days to cancel my extended warranty and get a full refund, but that may only be for new car warranties? Anyone know for sure? I guess I might know when I speak to the dealer, and then this will be moot.

3. With the Infiniti Elite Protection Plan, I'm getting the impression that it's 6 years, 84,000 miles FROM THE DAY THE PLAN IS PURCHASED--NOT from the vehicle's "In Service" date. Is that correct?

4. How much of a "stickler" is Infiniti when it comes to adhering to scheduled maintenance to prevent voiding the warranty? I'm not talking about oil changes. I mean the BS maintenance where you bring the car in for the 15,000 mile "checkup" and leave with a $300 bill, and a half mile long invoice saying they "checked" a bunch of stuff. If this IS absolutely necessary, do they care WHERE I get it done? Can I go to the local Nissan dealership and have them do the maintenance, so I don't have to drive 300 miles each time?

5. I noticed Nissan appears to sell extended warranties for non-Nissan vehicles (http://www.nissanextendedwarranty.com) Does anyone have any thoughts on purchasing the extended warranty from them, and then be at peace when the Infiniti standard warranty expires, knowing I can just go to the Nissan place from that point forward?

Sorry for all of the questions. This is probably very basic, but this being my first Luxury automobile purchase (and subsequently, the most I have ever spent on a car), I'm a bit nervous about even the most basic details. Thanks so much to anyone that can offer advice to this "Noob."

I can't help you with the warranty questions, but what city in Texas do you live in that the nearest Infiniti dealer is in Oklahoma?

Amarillo, in the Texas Panhandle. OKC is a straight shot down Interstate 40, so other than the traveling distance, I guess it could be worse.

I purchased my 04 G coupe used 2 years ago with 44K miles on her.
I purchased an extended warranty from my local Nissan dealership (Modern Nissan of Lake Norman) and they have been great to deal with!
Nissan can do basically everything for you EXCEPT Infiniti warranty that comes with the car.
I have an 08 G Sedan that I'm debating whether to get an extended warranty for it.

Thanks for that. Do you know the name of the warranty they sold you? Also, do you know if the pricing was comperable to the fantastic deals Infiniti owners have been getting on the Elite Performance plans? And what about coverage? Is it comperable to the Infiniti Elite plan, or are there a lot of exclusions? Thanks again,

Robert
