How can I make it to go next/previous presets instead of frequencies? In other mode (i.e. CD), it skips to next/previous track which is what I want.

Thanks for your help.
you can't have both! you only have track up and track down on your steering wheel,, thus you can only do track up/ track down ... think of radio frequencies as being tracks...

Can you still push and hold the button (either up or down) and get it to seek to the next available station? This would still be better than advancing one step at a time, although not the ideal answer.

Found it by luck. With the FM screen, go to the SEEK selection and make sure it's set to AUTO2. Once this is set, then through the steering wheel control, it will go to next/previous preset.

I was just messing around with various settings and found this by mistake.

that makes sense, its the same as pressing the button on the radio with that setting changed.... but you asked for a way to do both preset and frequency from the steering wheel, and that can't be done from the steering wheel alone without changing what you changed in the kenwood menu, again it either one or the other...

other vehicles that come with BOTH a track up and disc up feature on the steering wheel controls should be able to do what you are asking, but those vehicles are few and far in between

in any case, I'm glad you found what you were looking for

Thank you, yes I was hoping to do both but I guess not!

So I had the Kenwood backup camera installed today, and I thought I could leave the cam view on all the time? But I only see a blank video. However, if I put in reverse, it immediately displays the camera video?

Boy, this is a nice camera, with the backup light, I can see what's behind clearly. Very happy about it.

I had the car dynamated on all the doors today, inner skin, outer skin, and the vinyl side too. Used plain chant on the outer skin too to cover the whole door, not just behind speakers. Wow, big difference in noise reduction. They also put the Blackhole "stuff" and a layer attached to the vinyl side of all the doors. Car feels very solid now. Now the loudest part is from the front If I can rip out the floor carpet, would it make a much impact by doing the firewall behind the carpet? Or it would only be good if I rip apart the whole dash?

How about the hood? I just can't see how dynamating the hood would reduce noise though?

Thanks.

Just reading the manual, looks like the unit has an input for camera and I was trying to use Video1. This might be the problem why I can't see the camera video when I hit Video1!

I pulled up the carpet and did the floor as far up as I could reach on the firewall. Ideally, you would want to do the entire firewall. However, I was not about to rip apart the entire dash to get at this. I'm quite happy with how quiet the car is currently. Your car will always be the loudest through the firewall and from the road noise. There is a limit to how much of this you can limit.

Also, I wouldn't see any benefit to doing the hood. It might reduce some vibration that could make noise through the connected body panels. In my mind, this would not be a cost-effective mod. Just my opinion though.

Thank you, you confirmed my thinking in regards to the hood.

I did play with the backup camera again and it looks like unless the car is in reverse, the camera view is blacked out if I switch to it during driving for example? Any way to defect that?

I may now consider doing the entire floor but taking everything apart seems a lot of work

Thank you.

In the 8120 menu, under either the user interface menu or the A/V interface menu (I believe) there's a screen where it allows you to select the option for holding the nav button longer than 2 seconds

1 option is to show the rear view camera

the other option is to turn the screen off...

so right now, when I hold my Nav button (2nd from the right) for longer than 2 seconds, the rear view camera kicks in and I can just drive with my rear view camera on, until I hit the button again.... man I should start charging for this info.... j/k

It seems to switch to the camera input but still just a blank screen. This makes me wonder if the installer tap the camera power wire to the reverse light? So it powers up the camera only when the backup lights turn on.

that's seems unlikely... the power/ground wires run all the way to the front of the vehicle along with the video cable... you do need to tap the reverse wire, but that's with the purple wire leaving the kenwood harness, not the power from the camera , if your installer tapped the reverse wire for the power going to the camera then he's a douche, and you won't be able to watch the reverse camera while driving... yet another case of incompetent installers... I just don't get it...

Thank you, I'll confirm the wiring tomorrow when I have some time to rip out the dash.

Quick question, is it possible to turn off the internal amp to keep the HU run cooler?

Thanks.

Although, the amp shouldn't be generating that much heat if it is not connected to anything...

Thank you guys for the information in regards to turning off the internal amp. Thought I went through all the options but just in case I missed any hidden features

I was able to change the background to something else off a USB stick. I was told to change the startup Kenwood logo to something else, I need a file from Kenwood or something like that? Otherwise, the picture will not stay permanent? Has anyone tried it?

Thanks

Thank you, I also wanted to know the optimal resolution for the background picture? I saved a widescreen image and thought it looked pretty good on my computer screen, but after I transferred to the Kenwood, the background looks heavily compressed. Does it take the picture as is, or it does some internal processing once it's saved to the HU?

Also, do you guys have any creative ways to cover up the HU so it's less attractive
