got bored of playing wii bowling when drinking with friends at home. We picked up an xbox, 2 controllers, halo 3 and a headset. Played 4 hours of high-speed hammers and swords last night, it was totally worth it.

Haven't hooked up internet yet, or attempted to recover our gamertags. Hopefully we get lucky and this one doesn't red ring.

no hdmi unfortunately, but it was a CL steal of a deal and available the same day we decided we wanted one.

not refurbed as far as i know which means we are sitting on a ticking time bomb.

wouldnt be the first we've gone through. probably not the last if it fails.

wii sports is the only "wii" game i play. gamecube or downloaded games from previous systems not included, the wii's game range sucks because its all watered-down family schlock balanced so that grandma and baby can play smash bros with tourneyfag billy and still have a chance at winning.

thats another thread though. i like that this system was an impulse buy and i like that it was cheap and available when i wanted it. if it breaks, ill get it fixed. whatevs.

HDMI has been out for a long while and they weren't necessarily any better. The newest revision, codenamed "Jasper" are likely to be more troublefree as the relatively large change in chip size is a good opportunity to try and eliminate the red ring issue. Will it be the cure? Too early to tell at this point. But if you buy one now, it would be a good idea to try and find a Jasper. The following link will explain how to look for one:

precisely the reason I just sold my Wii. Smash Bros was awesome.... for about a month after that, there was really no point in owning a Wii. the "fun" only lasts for so long.

..Resident Evil 4 on the Wii was the tits though

Brawl could have held my interest alot longer if the online didn't suck, seriously whats the point of online gaming if you can't curse and swear at your friends?

Probably not - I have it in a open entertainment center with a laptop chill pad on the bottom to help keep it cool. My box isn't going anywhere

lol. or it woulda been cool if they actually had like updates via the Wii Shop Channel, where you could purchase new characters, costumes, items, etc.

haha you'll be surprised. your 360 was designed so that it waits until you're playing your favorite game and you're about to unlock something really really cool... then the lights pounce on you like a ninja

which one did you get, the arcade or Pro?

I am down to play some Halo 3 in a week. I am currently out of town and I can not wait to get home to play my Xbox.

If it's a first-gen elite, it could still have the DVDROM drive weakness. Not sayint that to be a party-pooper, just as a warning. That's what killed mine. The 2nd gen elites have far better cooling as well as a non-defective DVDROM drive, so they're pretty safe as far as Xboxes go.

That is just fluff solid customizable online with voice chat is what the game needed not new outfits. When I have to use my 360 so i can chat with friends in another game on another system there is a problem.

Paying for new outfits and new characters is exactly the opposite of what I want. Brawl has an excess of crappy characters (ahem Snake) as it stands. What the game needs is full online capability. That means a better system for hosting/joining games that Nintendos beyond-retarded friend code system, and it also means voice.

A voice patch may come at some point, though, now that the Wii Speak peripheral has been released.

And dammit, give Kirby his fireball dash back! Where did it go?! Kirby looses fireball but Fox keeps his dash? Nice.

I believe it's a 2nd gen - i didn't get it until several months after they put the elite out, so here's to crossing my fingers...

There's actually a really easy way to tell if you have the old crappy DVDROM drive or the new good one.

The old one has holes in the disc tray surface like this:

That's the one that's has issues. The disc retainer that normally drops down to secure the disc down on the disc was made with crappy adhesive and falls apart, after which the system can't read discs anymore.

The newer ones have a totally "clean" disc tray surface like this:

The newer drive is also supposed to be much quieter.

Ballin! I have the new one then! Either way, I'm installing all my games now, so there won't be as much use for the DVD drive anyway...

It's only $30 for a new dvdrom anyways... and if you get the 3 light ring of death, it takes like 20 minutes to fix.. 360's aren't that complicated. It's easier to take one apart, fix, and assemble than to build a computer.

I didn't know this until I got a free 360 with the 3 lights. Fixed it in a half hour. Now I got a free 360, woot. Just wish I had hdmi
