Post

Hello everyone!

I've been a Z owner since I was 17, my first being a 1984 Z31 N/A "Slicktop" and going to an 85 Turbo to my current 86 Turbo running a GT35R, lol. Needless to say, I love Z's.

So anyways I work as a mechanic and had a 1993 Z32 Convertible come in to work. It had been sitting for a while, the battery was dead and the alternator/water pump belt was snapped. The customer also complained of it running like crap, which it most certainly does. Anyways, turns out the fuel injector on Cyl 2 is shot, doesn't even ohm out. After we told the customer how much it cost, he didn't want to fix it.

So this morning my Boss asks me if I want to buy it because the owner is going to take it to the scrapyard! I ask how much, he says what the scrapyard would give him. So I picked this car up for $250! It's an Automatic and Convertible, but I won't hold that against the poor gal. I've named her Pearl, because she is Pearl White and that is the ONLY White car I actually like.

SO now I get the fun of pulling the intake and checking everything out while I'm in there. I'm hoping I can find a used injector somewhere, just because money is somewhat scarce. It takes the "Black" injector, and the owner says the engine is out of an Infiniti, I would guess a J30.

List of things it needs:
Front brakes, BAD
Fuel Injector
Fix power steering leak, might be the pump.
A/C needs work, possibly Compressor
The top doesn't work, and needs to be replaced, the back window has tape all over it...
Bodywork, looks like it was in a Hailstorm
that's the obvious stuff.

For $250, I'm not complaining. I've always wanted a Z32 to add to my collection, and even though this isn't exactly what I would choose (Turbo and Manual), it's still a Z and deserves my respect.

Just hitting up the forum since I am now a Z32 owner, w00t!

LaterZ.

Pics shall follow.

Tires are actually pretty decent! Fuzion Zri's with about 70% tread on them.

I will likely fix it up, get the top working, enjoy driving it for a while and sell it next spring/summer.

I'll get you some pics of my Z31 soon, I have never dynoed it so I can't give exact numbers, I'm guessing around 400 or so. I'm still running mostly stock internals, my other engine is being prepped for the machine shop. Here is a pic of the GT35R next to the stock T-3 though, LOL.

Body looks good.

Hell if you give up on it you could make quite a profit even as just a shell.

Nice find!

HOLY s***!!!! $250 for a rolling Z32 vert?!?!?!? I'd have paid $1500 for the carcass alone.

Thank you for giving this rare collectible a new chance at life.

I really hate to see a Z go to the scrapyard, and shoot $250 for any RUNNING and driving car is great, let alone a Z!

Are Z32 Verts a rare find? I supposed it would make sense that they were.

Those pictures are what I would call the "Myspace" angle. They don't show the 20 or 30 dings from hail damage and the dent on the passenger side in front the rear wheel. Nothing major really, but bodywork has never been my specialty, I just fix things, lol.

Anyways, it's gonna be a week or two before I get to work on her, I have to get the parts and money up so I can go ahead and pull the intake and get that injector fixed up. Then it's A/C fixin' time, because we surpassed "Hot" today and upgraded to "Fires of Hell."

Well that makes me happy and worried at the same time. Happy that I have a rare car, nervous that my top doesn't work and I will likely needs parts.

I'm searching and trying to find more info about this car, particularly the top. Can someone please direct me to some Z32 sites that list common problems, fixes, issues, and other things? I know my Z31 backwards and forwards, I plan to do the same with this car, since even if I sell this car, I will be buying another someday for sure. (TT and Manual, heehee).

Did the convertibles come from the factory? I am pretty sure they did. The Z31 Verts were converted by Straman is why I ask.

Hardtop. As opposed to t-tops or verts. Not as rare as the verts, but definitely rarer then the t-top cars (all Twin Turbos and 2+2's had t-tops).

There are probably several local shops in your area that repair and replace convertible tops.

I used to own a "Slicktop" 84 300ZX. Yeah Basically just a hardtop. It was my first Z! Was a great car, but I wanted Turbo, so I bought the 85, and things sort of went from there, lol.

I think my stepbrother is going to fix the top as far as the fabric and rear window, but I do not like to pay people to do things that I can do myself. I'm weird about my cars, honestly I don't like it when anyone else works on them. Sometimes it can't be helped, but if it's something I can do then I do it.

I should have most of the parts I need next week, then it's time to start the reconstruction. The more I look at this car, the sexier it gets, lol.
