Buying a clean 1996 240sx se for 200 bucks but needs work! The previous owner took it to midus and said the Front engine cover, Oil pan gasket, valve cover and a front crankshaft seal need replaced. she said that its just leaking oil badly when it's running.

My questions are how hard would it be it replace them all and what could cause them to leak that bad? Never owned a 240sx. it does have a ka24de in it.

Thanks.

You could download the factory service manual from this site and determine if those jobs are in your skill level.

Valve cover gasket is easy, but there are a lot of things that need to be unbolted to get the cover up to change the gasket.

Oil pan gasket is liquid gasket - but to get the pan off you really need to lift the engine up a little with a jack or engine hoist, loosen motor mount bolts (this can be a PITA). Drain oil, remove 10 bolts or so, scrape off old gasket thoroughly, apply new gasket correctly (don't use too much), reinstall.

Front cover and crank seal are not easy. Crank seal is behind the crank pulley - the trick is getting it off, both the main bolt is hard to loosen and you might need a pulley puller. Once the pulley is off the job is trivial.

I would do the valve cover first, then the oil pan - and then degrease the engine and see if the front cover is actually leaking. Then decide if that work is needed.

Good luck!
