Well i just got my K&N Intake installed in my 2010 Nissan Altima, as a rookie i tried to save that extra 100$ to let the shops to put it on for me, i did it myself. It was ALMOST PERFECT, except the fact the dam filter wouldnt stay on the tube so i over tightening it and caused the intake tube to like bent u know like a dent kind of thing where the hose clamp is being tightening. So now i am wondering will those dents on the intake tube effect the overall performance?

are the dents small like quarter sized? or is the whole tube bent? pics would greatly help with this...

the small dent in the 3rd pic should cause no issues i wouldnt think, but the other probably needs to be fixed, what i would do is get a small tube, like a half inch tube thats somewhat long. stick it in the tube and pry that dent out, and use a cloth on the inside of the k/n tube so not to damage it.

If that bend (3rd pic) is where the clamp secures the filter, then it's a problem. Not sure how much overlap there is, but I would guess the edge of the clamp was in the center of that bend.

with my limited experience on hose clamps, i figured that as long as its a dent and not really a bend then it wont slip off, if installed properly there shouldnt be anything pulling the tubes away from each other so the hose clamps shouldnt need to be super tight, all they need is to be snug since there not the support for the whole assembly.

My concern was that you want to create as close to an air-tight seal as possible. If there are any imperfections at the mating surface then that will increase the chances of letting unfiltered air in.

Yea the third pic is the dent where secures with the FILTER on, well is weird i had to use ALOT of force just in order to have the filter to be on the tube, and when i have it on the tube i still had to apply alot of force on the filter just to haev it stay on the tube....

Yo I have this intake as well and I didnt even come close to bending or denting any piping when I installed it. I thought it was pretty solid, this dude's looks like he back over it with the coupe!

I'm thinking about buying the K&N intake for my 3.5, it's probably going to be my first mod...I bought the racingline y-pipe, but it's just sitting around for now until I can save up for the nismo cat-back, but I was just wondering if a tune is needed in order for the intake to work properly and not cause any problems...I tried searching through the forums but I didn't really find anything and some of my friends tell me one is needed, others say that you don't need a tune...Does anybody know anything about this?

A tune is not needed and the intake wont throw any codes. After all your mods are installed you can get a tune and that will take advantage of the mods.

If anything do an idle re-learn and you are set. No need to tune at all.

Just disconnect the battery and leave it over night if you park it in a garage. If not, then I guess you can sleep in it over night lol

To the OP...

I was thinking about this, there is no way that pipe should have crushed like that just from the force of the hose clamps. The clamp should have snapped or at least started slipping threads before it crushed the pipe in that way. I would contact K&N or the dealer you bought it from and see if they can hook you up with a replacement pipe. I honestly cant believe that it just folded like that from a little hose clamp pressure. Ive busted hose clamps on PLASTIC pipes on my washing machine.

Agreed 100%. I couldn't even reproduce this if I wanted to on my IC piping (cheaper aluminium) with hose clamps or T-Bolt clamps. There's just no way. Either you have clamps made of diamonds and steel or something else happened...

Lol idk man but I'm 100% sure the damage was from the hose clamps, the filter just wouldn't stay on idk why so I had to tightening it super hard. The clamps didn't snap or slipped thread. And they were provided by K&N

I called them and they see they dont cover installation error or somethig like that. And they agreed I did that with the clamps too. And if I were to get another one id have to pay for the replacement
