If that bend (3rd pic) is where the clamp secures the filter, then it's a problem. Not sure how much overlap there is, but I would guess the edge of the clamp was in the center of that bend.insaneturbo13 wrote:the small dent in the 3rd pic should cause no issues i wouldnt think, but the other probably needs to be fixed, what i would do is get a small tube, like a half inch tube thats somewhat long. stick it in the tube and pry that dent out, and use a cloth on the inside of the k/n tube so not to damage it.
with my limited experience on hose clamps, i figured that as long as its a dent and not really a bend then it wont slip off, if installed properly there shouldnt be anything pulling the tubes away from each other so the hose clamps shouldnt need to be super tight, all they need is to be snug since there not the support for the whole assembly.beeristasty wrote: If that bend (3rd pic) is where the clamp secures the filter, then it's a problem. My concern was that you want to create as close to an air-tight seal as possible. If there are any imperfections at the mating surface then that will increase the chances of letting unfiltered air in.insaneturbo13 wrote: with my limited experience on hose clamps, i figured that as long as its a dent and not really a bend then it wont slip off, if installed properly there shouldnt be anything pulling the tubes away from each other so the hose clamps shouldnt need to be super tight, all they need is to be snug since there not the support for the whole assembly.
dude, its a K&N. lolzDJBeasy wrote:You did that with the clamps?!?!?! Thats crazy, I would think the clamp would snap before denting the piping?
Yo I have this intake as well and I didnt even come close to bending or denting any piping when I installed it. I thought it was pretty solid, this dude's looks like he back over it with the coupe!jewelz505 wrote:dude, its a K&N. lolzDJBeasy wrote:You did that with the clamps?!?!?! wow, thats a crazy bend guy! just straighten it out with pliers(cloth between pliers and tube of course). there shouldnt be any issues.the MAF sensor is what u should be worried about, if thats ok then ur ok! GL
you don't need a tuneCrimsonCoupe3.5 wrote:I'm thinking about buying the K&N intake for my 3.5, it's probably going to be my first mod...I bought the racingline y-pipe, but it's just sitting around for now until I can save up for the nismo cat-back, but I was just wondering if a tune is needed in order for the intake to work properly and not cause any problems...I tried searching through the forums but I didn't really find anything and some of my friends tell me one is needed, others say that you don't need a tune...Does anybody know anything about this?
Agreed 100%. I couldn't even reproduce this if I wanted to on my IC piping (cheaper aluminium) with hose clamps or T-Bolt clamps. There's just no way. Either you have clamps made of diamonds and steel or something else happened...DJBeasy wrote:To the OP...
I was thinking about this, there is no way that pipe should have crushed like that just from the force of the hose clamps. The clamp should have snapped or at least started slipping threads before it crushed the pipe in that way. I would contact K&N or the dealer you bought it from and see if they can hook you up with a replacement pipe. I honestly cant believe that it just folded like that from a little hose clamp pressure. Ive busted hose clamps on PLASTIC pipes on my washing machine.
