hey guys, wanted to know if you could throw in a few tips, on mantaining my car, and adding modifications.

* What kind of fuel to use?* 20's or 19's - Looking for chrome rims with small golden emblems, ideas?* What does Y33 stand for? is that another name for Q45s?* What are some websites with body parts for Q45s 97-98?* Has anyone installed wooden steering wheels?

Thanks in advance guys.

Welcome to our club!!Congrats on an awesome car!!-

-Premium only-Our sponsor tire rack ,has a page were you can try out differnt tire/wheel sizes, most purists here would recommend against such heavy wheels though,.. as braking, stability and performance would all suffer on any car with such large wheels (at least if their are heavby and they all are, unless you spend real monster $$ and sometimes even then)-The generation code for your model year run of Q45's-There are some real spendy japanese sites out there, to which others will link you-yes but I dont have a link handy.

Hey, time for me to give a little something back...

1) Yep, premium. Some folks are recommending BG products Fuel Injector Cleaner. Don't know what frequency.

2) I just use a $5.00 can of Mothers on my Alums, learned that at the fire department.

3) Y33 is '97-'00 or '01

4) Joe at everythinginfiniti.com has a body parts section, all OEM. He looks to be the trusted source round the parts.

(This one's for maxnix): search the forums, specify Post Bodies to get some results, I have been asking some of the same questions, just bought a '99. Look for Q45Tech's posts. He is the bomb. Also browse the Infiniti Mechanics forum. It has a lot of good info.

Off topic: Did you sand them first? Could you give a little detail, possibly here or in a new thread?

You mean a real wooden steering wheel? As in the ones used in classics? That'd look pretty good. I don't think anyone has done it though. You'd have to move the electronics though.

Congrat's on the purchase of a sweet car.

1. premium, I use Redline fuel system cleaner regularly2. 19's, 20's look to big, besides the minus in performance3. 97-01 Q45, technically it's an FGY334. look up Junction Produce, Wald, Insurance, and Auto Couture (all Japanese brands of VIP tuners)5. I've seen wood rimmed OE replacements for Toyota Celsiors (Lexus LS') in the VIP car magazines for about 75000 yen (~750 bucks), but never seen one for the Nissan Cima (Q45).

If you want to lower it, I can get you TEIN springs, I've gotten about 5 set's so far for the Y33 series Q, and ordered anoter set today, so let me know quickly if you want some.

I didn't sand, I just rubbed like hell. Keep rubbing til the stuff turns black on the wheel. It almost looks chrome after that! You make a good point about sanding the wheel. One of my projects this weekend is to fix one of the wheels where it looks like someone used ScothBrite to clean it up (ouch!). Mothers is not abrasive enough to smooth that out. So I have 3 wheels that are pimps and 1 ho.

I'll start a thread with a pic this weekend and see how it goes.

Falkdesigns:I would be interested, how much for lowering springs? Are they easy to install? I'm looking to throw in 19" rims on it...

I'm doing them for 280 shipped, they are no more difficult to install than most springs, but the fronts take pretty long due to the suspension design. It's about 4.5 hours of labor according to the manual.

A NICO member, Jason Burtman, specializes in wood trim and other interior upgrades. Check out http://www.burtmanindustries.com and send him an email. Not sure if he does steering wheels or not.

Can we see the new ride?

not to poin you in the wrong direction, but check out http://www.clublexus.com. Those guys are all running 19's over there and there are several very nice JDM forged wheels for sale, but you have got to have the bucks ($1,500+) as even though they are used they don't go for cheap....well a lot cheaper than brand new they are. Also check for a couple of posts down the past 2 weeks....you will find a guy selling some sweet 19's on his M45.

YEah, I've no got quite a bit of experience with Mother's Metal Polish. I recommend that you use either a buffing wheel on an angle griner or a wool wheel on a rotary tool. It'll make quick work of the wheels AND they'll get even shinier then when you do it by hand.

Well, they are a wood veneer, not solid like the old days when a truly bespoke driver would have driving gloves.

They are standard in the maple finish on 2001 and 2000 ae. A little too yellow for my taste, but at least the cabin trim is real wood.

Hey guys, thanks for all the great tips, links and comments.I'll be taking a picture of my car and posting it later today. It's a nice vanilla color with golden emblems.

That website will for sure put some wood on my steering wheel... they'll get back to me with a price, I'll let you guys know.

* So why are 97-01 Q45s called FGY33?

By the way, I'm going with your opinions, and doing 19" rims instead of 20s. I'm looking at these now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...85904

What you guys think?

does anybody know how hard/difficult it is to R&R a steering wheel? Are there any issues with the airbag, etc? I need mine recovered and want the extra padding to make it a little thicker grip. I would buy a spare wheel from the junkyard to be sent off to be redone.

I havent been to Chicago in quite a while, but I believe like most large midwestern cities that experience plenty of snow, the urban roads and highways are crap. I'd be concerned about ride quality. My suggestion is 18" -- you achieve the look while saving lots of money on tires (or spending the same money on better tires).

Please for God's sake, don't put spinners on your Q! Those are hideous, sorry. Get some clean wheels, without spinners and enhance the Q's beautiful lines, don't ruin them!

The reason it's sometimes referred to as FGY33 is that it's the chasis code.

Rob, get in touch with http://www.wheelskins.com .

I believe they will help you.

I also believe any member who has installed one of those fuzzy or rubber steering wheel covers should be subject to a group intervention by the Society to Prevent Abused Q45s (SPAQ).

Check with JasonB if you don't want to go through the importing hassles.

Check on Impul. Web currency converters are everywhere, and the rate will change by the time you order. Assume 100 Yen to the dollar for a guesstimate.

Is your wheel and dash facing really black? Must have changed them on the later ones.

Reminds me of the Y34 dash; any color you want as long as it is black.

The Wald executive line is georgous, but you would need the front and rear bumpers from the JDM models for it to fit. 19's will fit the size of the car nicely, glad that you are giving up on the spinners. Junction Produce also has very clean kit's for the Q, and is available in the U.S. to fit our version.

Total PITA. Theres some safety torx heads (torx heads with a nub in the middle so you cant use normal torx heads) and its really not worth it...

Id get a cover to go over it.. It really doesnt look that bad and works nicely... Walmart, $10.. I liked the feel of it better.....

Here's one...

Pls forgive me, I couldn't resist.

Seriously, look at wheelskins.comhttp://www.wheelskins.com/euro...initiFor $50 and about 1/2 hour you could do one of these two-toners that match your interior colors and that would be the shiznit. SW swap is gonna be a beeyatch.

Here's another idea. Grant makes a "styling ring", don't know how much but it is a burlwood look that presses on to the wheel. Here is a pic... go to http://www.grantproducts.com.

Whoops, got a call coming in............ ID says SPAQ, anyone heard of them........... um, er, well, gotta go, night ya'll.
