You mean a real wooden steering wheel? As in the ones used in classics? That'd look pretty good. I don't think anyone has done it though. You'd have to move the electronics though.CiscoKid wrote:* Has anyone installed wooden steering wheels?
YEah, I've no got quite a bit of experience with Mother's Metal Polish. I recommend that you use either a buffing wheel on an angle griner or a wool wheel on a rotary tool. It'll make quick work of the wheels AND they'll get even shinier then when you do it by hand.sadams wrote:I didn't sand, I just rubbed like hell. Keep rubbing til the stuff turns black on the wheel. It almost looks chrome after that! You make a good point about sanding the wheel. One of my projects this weekend is to fix one of the wheels where it looks like someone used ScothBrite to clean it up (ouch!). Mothers is not abrasive enough to smooth that out. So I have 3 wheels that are pimps and 1 ho.
Well, they are a wood veneer, not solid like the old days when a truly bespoke driver would have driving gloves.kimrober wrote:That... is a steering wheel from 2001 model (OEM of course). All 2001 Q45s (not sure about 99 and 2000 models) came with wood steering wheels.
I havent been to Chicago in quite a while, but I believe like most large midwestern cities that experience plenty of snow, the urban roads and highways are crap. I'd be concerned about ride quality. My suggestion is 18" -- you achieve the look while saving lots of money on tires (or spending the same money on better tires).CiscoKid wrote:By the way, I'm going with your opinions, and doing 19" rims instead of 20s. I'm looking at these now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...85904
What you guys think?
Total PITA. Theres some safety torx heads (torx heads with a nub in the middle so you cant use normal torx heads) and its really not worth it...rsiwicki wrote:does anybody know how hard/difficult it is to R&R a steering wheel? Are there any issues with the airbag, etc? I need mine recovered and want the extra padding to make it a little thicker grip. I would buy a spare wheel from the junkyard to be sent off to be redone.
