I just picked up my uncles 97Q. Emerald green/tan interior. 60k miles, all sceduled service done by Infiniti of Roswell, GA. The only thing that has to change are the stock 16" wheels. I would like to put on a set of 18-19", but nothing over the top. I want something nice looking, but conservative. Any suggestions? I like the 2003 Q wheels.

Any performance parts for this car?

Brian

Brian - First of all, welcome to NICO!!!

You picked a great car. There's very little in the way of performance mods for it, but the best thing you can do for that particular car is a great set of tires. Any larger rims are going to counter the performance gains you may want - 17" is the optimal balance IMO for the 97-01. Increasing the rotating/unsprung weight with a larger wheel will hurt performance - Braking, acceleration and ride quality will suffer. Plus, it's damn near impossible to find tires in the proper load rating larger than 17". When you do, they'll be pricey - Don't think you're gonna be able to throw some $1500 wheel/tire package from a magazine ad on the Q - It will NOT be a happy car.

That being said, there is at least one member here with a set of 2002 Q45 18's on his car, and they look spectacular - If looks is all you're after, then that's the ticket. Steer clear of aftermarket rims if possible unless you're going high-dollar. Factory alloys are stronger, straighter, and easier to balance properly. If it were MY car, I'd go with a set of the 17" Touring (5-spoke) factory alloys with some 245/45/ZR17's (which several members here have).

Tgvince is in the proces of developing a CAI for the 97-01 Q's, and it's nearly done. Dyno results have been encouraging, but that car is pretty close to maxed-out straight from the factory.

Spend some time perusing our site, don't be afraid of the SEARCH button, and again, Welcome to the family!

Brian--- Welcome to our community....... Your car is one of the more bulletproof models of Q45s in existance today (although not as powerful as our 90-96 Q45, but you dont like driving fast do you ;) )...... As far as wheels are concerned, I have seen 17in chromed 2002 Q45 wheels on ebay for sometime..... although they are pricey........ Your best bet would be to go to an infiniti dealer and see if they have any takeoffs available........

Most questions that you may have already been covered at some point in time, so be sure to use the search button....... Not only does it save us time for not having to spit out the same information, but it is more convenient for YOU because you dont have to wait for replys (even though we are really fast in replying!)

My next Q will probably be a 98 or 99.......... But i just dont think id have the heart to get rid of my 94!!!!!!

Congrats on the new car! http://www.wheelweights.net/ is an invaluable resource when shopping for wheels. I've always thought (and Infiniti, too apparently) that you can't go wrong with BBS- especially when it comes to durability vs. weight. Wheel weight (unsprung) can be a major performance killer. As for mods, check with Stillen. They did a custom 97 Q, supposedly Bill Cosby's car, that I always thought looked very cool. We need to meet up for some racing!

re: elwesso's post- here's a set of chromed Q/I 17s on ebay( pre-2002):http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...97863

Not sure if they're the Q or the I, but beware that the Q's were just recalled. Also beware- I've got the I version, and they BEND!

FYI - The 5-spoke I30 17's and the Q 17's are identical.

All alloy rims will bend if they're struck hard enough.

The 16" rims on your car are fairly popular on this list... be sure to post here when you're ready to sell them!

The difference between I and Q rims is the width - 7" and 7.5" respectively. I have a set of ContiExtremes in 245/45/17 size mounted on the OEM 5-spoke wheels. Hope this helps.

The Q wheels were recalled, but I have yet to get any notice or see anything on the NHTSA site about the I wheels being recalled. I really hope they are, as I could use a new set (see bending note above :) ) Also, if I'm not mistaken, the finish of the spokes is slightly different between the two.

I have some pics of the 18" 2002 Q45 rims/tires on my '94 Q45 at netsnapshot. http://www.netsnapshot.com/pcw...=2183I imagine the rims/tires are well capable of supporting my Q since they came off the new Q which is a similar weight and shares similar ride qualities. These came on the car when I bought it a few months ago, but they were originally purchased as take-offs from a new Q owner that upgraded his wheels through the dealership. You can also find these on ebay once in a while.

Welcome, I have the same car (even the same color scheme, which IMHO is the best for our year) with 70k but mine is the touring model. I too had the 16" rims, the only option it didn't have on it.

I just mounted a set of 17x8 rims with 245/45 17 ES100 Yokohama's and it made a big difference in the car. It handles much better but it rides a bit rougher too. I would say skip the 18 or 19 and go 17 as others suggested.

Good luck, you have a cool car.
