Hello everyone I'm really ignorant to these older datsuns. I remember my grampa had one when i was a kid. I've always liked them and finally found one in my area. i just bought this one off of craiger's, i need all the info i can get on these. I think its going to be an awesome truck when I'm done(i hope) haha! It currently needs a ton of work though. The drivers door handle doesn't work the body has some good rust, and the seat rails are busted on the drivers side. I couldn't pass it up for 400 bucks though.

What info do you need? There are a ton of resources available for that model both in North America and the UK.

well i need all the info i can get honestly. I'm looking for a front disc brake conversion. Some good websites maybe a forum dedicated to the older datsun pickups. I'm also looking for some body panels, and if they have a weber carb/setup for this model. It's kinda hard to start, especially when cold. I believe it's the carb. thanks in advance! here is a pic, i'll try and get some up this week.

I know that both Weber and Mikuni make carbs for the older Datsun engines. I even found this adapter (see attached)which will fit Nissan/Datsun L16,L18 and L20B engines that makes the conversion from the 2 bbl Hitachi Carb to a Weber very simple. It's direct from Weber and any Weber dealer on NICO should be able to give you a good price.

I also have this UK Datsun link on file http://www.datsunownersclub.co.uk/

Of course you could do an engine/transmission swap which seems to be hot topic on this forum lately. Still checking on body part availability.

Brand New Manifold Adapter kit to fit most Japanese Vehicles equipped with Hitachi 2 BBL Carburetors. Part Number:100.098

any link/info to buy? I found the like directly through weber, anything cheaper than almost $400? I appreciate your help btw. I registered on the uk forum as well. I'm thinking the mikuni's are probably a bit much for my stock motor lol. I think a nice weber is in order though.

The only option you really have is to take the parts you need from a late 70's early 80's 720-2 wheel drive Datsun P/U. They have the same 6 bolt pattern you seek but you WILL have to take the complete steering knuckle assembly with the brakes attached. Not sure about the compatability of the upper/lower control arms and ball joints (EDIT). Not sure about the fit of the tie-rods either for the steering assembly. So that will need to be checked too!

Go visit a local parts supplier and tell them what you want to do. See what years of 620's the upper and lower ball joints will fit and do some cross referencing on the 720's.

Cool project with great potential.

I found this whilst searching for odds & sods in the Cardomain forums.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2250161

Sweet 620 with a small block Chevy under the hood. I bet this guy knows where you can get your body parts from as well.

where are you at with your project? i just picked up my second 620 king cab and am going through alot of the same issues you are. for the seats, i ran toyota tercel seats. it is easy to swap out whatever buckets you want to install. my 78 has disks on the front. you should be able to find one in a junk yard and do a direct swap. for the carb, go weber. you can get the whole setup on ebay for around $250 or pick up a used one for around $50

Yank the L20 and drop in an L28 from a 280ZX. I believe it'd bolt right up to the transmission, or take the Z transmission and make it work. Fuel injection good.

Looks like some rust repair is in order to save this thing from rotting away.

620's are neat looking little trucks.

My favorite lil'gem.620's rock. Go to five and dime for induction. And google frankenstiend datsun motors. The 78 79 trucks had discs.Early 720 had the exact suspensions as well. All 510 Datsun sites have good info on L engines.

Zipping up a slick little 620 with wild Nissan power would be a real treat.

I am of the opinion that you should use motors and such from the same manufacturer as your vehicle. Nissan has so many engine choices, transmission's and aftermarket parts you could make one helluva sleeper.......hmmmmm

Thinking of my plans for building an AWD dime again..... VG30DET...5 spd......No....toomuchmoneywifewillmurdermeandhangsmynadsinthesuntodry.

The L20 and the newer NAPZ24(found in the later years of the 720), as I recall, use the same transmissions.

In all of the the 2WD and 4x4 720's(yes a generation newer) The 5 speed transmission's use the exact same bell housing and gear box body. The only difference between them is the tail shaft length which differs by only a few inches.

I beleive the early 1981- up 720's (2WD and 4x4) manual transmission should bolt right up to your L20. But if you find a manual transmission in another 620 or Datsun car with the same engine as yours you would have no trouble taking a 5 speed from the donor vehicle and bolting it to your 620's powerplant.

Take the transmission cross member(s) from the donor vehicle and all the wires, clips and sensors as well.

L engines lay over to the right and Z engines lay to the left.Swapping the front cases will resolve the crooked shifter problem.
