I bought a 2 door 72.

Needs a lot of work... basically I need new floors welded and some other rust repairs. then have it painted and work from the shell

as for the engine choices... there's 2 kits from maddat, either a ca18 or sr20

for the sr20 I know I need a custom turbo manifold because its too close to the steering..

is this the case with the ca18det as well?

unfortunately my car has no real starting point... everything needs to be replaced (part of the trunk, floors, struts, shocks.... everything)

Good luck, sounds like you'll need it. I say don't even worry about the motor for now, you got body work to get done first. Enjoy, I'd kill for a rusted out 510.

Ah man I would die for a 510!!! Perfect for auto racing. Plus you could push alot of 240's and C5R's off the road in the twisties :D J/P

There is ONE datsun 510 I've seen in Austin and its a '72 perfect body. Good luck with the project.

I'm originally from Califa <----. What part?? I got some relatives in West Covina, Bakersfield, San Diego, Tulare, Redlands, Ontario, Los Angeles. I went back this summer and I miss it already..:(

Inline 4,

re: wanting to fix on the car and not knowing how/what...

First, are you relying on this for your daily driver? More caution necessary if so, but...
  1. Get tools
  2. get repair manual (for the compleat idiot is good, or Chilton's or Haynes)
  3. don't expect the manual to be a lot of help, it expects you to know something
  4. and won't fill you in when you couldn't know it, but
  5. it's a resource material just like...
  6. your car, which...
  7. is what you now begin to tear into, hopefully...
  8. with the help of some knowledgable friendlies such as...
  9. the guys here in NICO, but
  10. don't ask me, I don't know 510's, just mechanicin' on lots of different cars, and[/list=1]
