I will probably not help you out a lot. But I have a '90 240sx and I was taking my winshield-out to do some body repait. I used a carpenters knife, and i cracked the winshield in several places. I then went to the junkyard/salvageyard and sourced couple out. I used a "special knife tool" they sell those in "Murray's discount auto parts store". I will be honest with you, unless I'm not experienced with that tool, or it realy sucks. If your not carefull, or not steady you will crack the windshield.
The only thing that worked for me, was a String/wire also sold i the same store, its made out of some sort of metal material. But its realy thin, it's gold colored. This worked best for me but use thick gloves because its kind of sharp. And when you apply pressure it realy tightens up. Pull the winshield weather striping from around the windshield. Use some thing like a razor to cut a hole through old seal, thread/push the string/rope between windshield and car body through the seal. Once you get it through, I just wraped one end of the wire one my one hand and the other end on my other hand. Then wind it up so you create pressure on the wire, and start moving your hand back and forth, "like using a saw". I started at the driver side bottom corner and worked my way up, than when you get to the top. Go around the car, to the other side. It cuts really good when it has pressure and your pulling the wire towards you, which ever way your cutting accross or up and down. The only hards part is the bottom of the windshield. As it's almost impossible to cut it. I removed the entire dashboard. Then I made a new hole in the bottom and pulled the wire through. Oh a pair of pliers come in handy here, eather to cut the wire to desired length or to pull the wire through. When cutting watch out for the head liner as the wire will cut into it, and the same for the dashboard it will cut into it if not removed thus making it harder to cut. It took me about 2 and a half hour to get the windshield out. But I was by my self and I took my time to remove the windshield without breaking it. And dont force the windshield out it will crack, i cut the rest of the seal that was preventing me from removing the windshield out with a knife. I also cut the bottom seal with the knife (very thin blade) before I used the wire so it would make it easier to cut the bottom. Be carefull with the wire because it will chip the edges of windshield.
Things like hood, and windshield wipers and plastic cover under winshield wipers was removed to make it easier to remove the windshield.
With tax I paid 45USD for the windshield, also some windshield's have spray paint on them when car got to junkyard. I got the paint of with razor blade, scraped it off. I think paint thiner will work too.
Hope this helps you in some sort of way. No matter what you decide to do, the wire is like 10 bucks at the store. I'm no expert in window removal installation, but this is how I did it.
Peace.
