Stats:

Make: 1995 Infinity J30 w/ Spoiler (Not Touring)

Miles: 97,400

Color: Black

Price Paid: $5,400

So how did I make out on the price? I took it to auto shop after a bought it for an overall inspection and they said it was in excellent condition throughout.

I can honestly say when I first went to my local used car dealer looking for something new this car was the last thing on my mind. The body has a weird shape to it. Anyway, my girlfriend had just pruchased a 1999 QX4 and she liked it alot so I took it for a test drive. I always bring a CD with me on my test drives and to hear the bass boom like that w/o the aid of a subwoofer was impressive. I also like that it had a lot of options and thought the analog clock was really sleek, but what really hooked me was the engine. I had no clue it was going to be that fast. I have owned a 1987 Mercedes 190e for the last 4 years so I had gotten used to taking things slow, but as my foot touched the pedal (on the j30) the whole car seemed like it was about jump up off the ground. I could tell the dealer was a little nervous because I wasn't used to this 200+ horsepower. After one spin around the block I was hooked. I was hit'n 70 on the streets of Virginia w/ the poor car salesmen in the back.

The car was priced at $6,900, but I haggled and gave him the, "I am poor college student" speech until he finally got down to 5,600 then I got him to take off another $200 because the side mirror had a crack and the sunroof only goes back about halfway without some man powered assistance (I kinda mad about that one).

Lastly, I LOVE THIS CAR! It is sleek, black, and above all quick. I beat a ford thunderbird of the line by a good 7 feet, just driving around DC. The gas milage is crap, but none the less I can't wait to get it inspected so I can go ahead and tint the windows 5% black to match the paint and start ditching ever stock light I can find for Xenon. My final question is, does anyone no a good online site that sells a lot of aftermarket parts for the j30? I know ebay is good, but I am looking for some really cool additions to make my car stand out from the rest.

I will post pictures a couple of months from now after I really get the car how I want it to look.

Welcome to the forum!

I believe all J30's come with daylight running lights. As a result I wouldn't put in Xenon's or blue bulbs in, because speaking from experience they will knock both your headlight modules out (they can't handle the voltage) leaving you with no headlights. A somewhat expensive fix.

Jeff, if you do a search on J30 and read the previous posts, you will learn a lot about your car. Read ALL the posts by Q45tech, and you will learn a lot about automtive topcs in general.

Since it has projector beam headlights, the angel eyes conversion one of our members does may be a desirable custom touch. Changing bulbs out willy-nilly is NOT recommended.

Welcome to the board. It is an invaluable resource to maintaining your new treasure in as new condition. I wonder if your knock sensors are dead since you are getting such bad mileage? Maybe should have bargained for a Consult if you purchased from a dealer. Don't risk your car with anyone who is not familiar with Infiniti in general and the J30 in particular. Most specialist Z32 shops can service the engine and mechanicals.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I especially want to thank you guys for the warning about the lights. I didn't even realize they were on during the day. I would like to learn more about this whole "angel eyes" thing as well as what is and isn't okay when it comes to swapping light bulbs because I had planned to swap out the reverse lights, head lights, turn signals, license plate lights, dome lights, and last but not least a bright neon blue light on the center console somewhere (I had a friend who did this in a black mustang once and the lights look sick from behind the black tint and I figure mine would look 10x better because I can control the dome light remotely so I could quite possible chain this in conjuctions with other lights that I install from the inside...) Anyway, any assistance or links to previous posts would be greatly appriciated and in the mean time I will search throught this great forum and see what I find. Peace.

You do not have daytime running lights, unless your car is a Canadian spec. And as far as changing out your headlights, in my search the only two companies that match wattages 55W - which you want to be sure to do to prevent frying your wiring - are PIAA and Sylvania. PIAA being much more expensive.

Same goes for other lights, just match the OEM wattages and you won't need to worry.

Look for the pictures of angel eyes either at a couple of the Car Domain J30s or in a thread of two here - do a search with angel eyes as your key words

DRL avialable only in Canada.

"Only in Canada? Pity." (only Canadians would understand that reference:D )
