Ok guys, Bought the 240sx fixed the engine. Well there were some more problems, and to make it easier on me and you this is what the seller said the problems are"odometer is screwed has 300,000 plus kms, speedo is a H.U.D. (heads up display) and it doesn't work, gauge lights come on when they want, ebrake cable snapped to both sides, cracked windshield, the steering rack is going. and the body has some rust not lots but some and finally small hole in driverside floor underneath the pedal area not hard to fix just no time for me. i use the car as a daily driver but i bought a new one" I was wondering if its hard to change a steering rack. If you could help with the other problems that would also be good.

From my experience I think 240's are one of the easiest cars to put a rack in don't get me wrong its not a simple job and Id say for your first one set aside about 3hrs and be prepared to spend more if needed if everything goes well though you'll be able to get it done before those 3 hrs pass.

the speedo if it reads a constant 0 and the odometer does not work you may be looking into getting a new speed sensor (normally when replacing they are a headache as the sensor oring binds in the trans making it hard to remove, and sensor my break). if the h.u.d. does not work at all there are severeal modules involved in the system that can be causing the problem.

Yes, if the speedometer reads zero, it's most likely your speed sensor, plugs into the transmission. Mine was flakey when I got my 240. It's a $70-ish part from Advance Auto and is easy to install.

If the speedometer doesn't show anything ever, then what most likely happened is a bad capacitor. They are known to go bad on the unit. Do some searches on this forum, there are a number of repair procedures for it outlined. Or you can just goto http://www.240sxtech.com and check out this article on how to fix her up: http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=158878

Great site that one, by the way. Take a gander!

The speedo on my 90 240sx is kind of intermittent...works fine sometimes..sometimes doesn't moveor it might suddenly start working..needle will leap up. Is it probably the sensor or just a loose connection?
