hey i have searched and i can not find anything. let me start by saying i have a 1989 nissan 240sx coupe with the ka24e. i had changed the crank and bearrings out of my other 240sx ka24e motor that had a cracked block into mine. it turned over fine by hand but when i put it in mine i cant figure out whats wrong but as soon as i put the main bearring cap peice on i can still turn it over but the second i tighten it up any. then the crank will not turn anymore? any ideas? and they both have standard size bearrings and everything is identical. what can i do to find out whats going on because i need my car back on the road. thanks for looking

have a nice daydonnie

here's an update, lol well i just took some 800 and 2000 wet/dry sand paper and sanded behind where the main bearrings go because they looked a little rough. got them smooth and its still doing it. so i know that wasnt the problem. any chance that main peice im not sure whats it called but any chance that could be bad or something.

take it to a machine shop and have it inspected. or buy some plasticgauge and torque all to spec, remove caps and you'll know where your problem is.

Measure with a micrometer at the areas shown on the FSR. Also, if you have access to either a telescoping gauge or dial bore gauge, check the inside dia. of the main bores to see if they are in spec.

ALso, are you using new bolts/studs or reusing the old ones? They may be stretched and not torqueing coreectly.

I was going to advice that but I don't think he has any measuring tools to his avail. thats why he is where he is. Plastigauge is the cheapest way to figure out where your problem is without taking it to a machine shop to have it inspected.

Just make sure if you use the plastigauge, don't try to rotate your crank and make sure you clean if all off.

ok awesome i am glad to see some replys. i have heard about this plastigauge how does that work exactly? and i havent been able to torque them yet. i can just snug them up and it would stop turning. i am using the old ones until i can figure out then im going to install some APR main studs. i have it inside my trailor right now so i can const antly mess with it without having to be outside in the weather.and no i do not have any access to any kind of guages i spend almost all of my money tryin to keep my car together i can get everything i would needto convert my car from a sohc to a dohc for only $750 but i cant afford that. which sucks big time.by the ways whats FSR mean? i know alot about how to work on vechiles but i have never had to use any guages for anything. but i am still learning alot im used to working on 300zx engines but not the 2.4 enging the head bolt torque sequence is all messed up if u ask me,lol well i apreciate all the help.

You put a peice of plastigauge between the outer cap and crank journal. Torque down, remove the caps, you will have a piece of paper that comes with the plastigauge it will have different size measurements, you hold that up to the smashed plastigauge on your journal to see what the tolerance is.
