Hi all, Just bought my first pathfinder, 2011 LE with touch nav and I was real exited about the Bose system. My previous ride which i still have, is a 2003 Chevy trailblazer with the Bose 6 cd system and I have to say it is the best stock audio I ever had in any car. It is loud and the fidelity is awsome. Naturally I expected the same from the pathfinder. Well the sound quality of the pathfinder really sucks by comparison. The mid bass is overly boomy and i have to max the treble to offset it while lowering the bass. Lowering the bass obviously makes the subwoofer useless and raising the volume to get some punch breaks up and harshes the highs as if the amp is clipping. The trailblazer at max volume is crystal clear as if beeing driven by a class A tube amp. They are both Bose systems so I cant understand why there is such a difference in sound. I obviously want to keep the dash stock so replacing the head (if there really is one as it is integrated) is out of the question. What other options are out there as far as sound processing/equalization, amp replacement, speaker replacement? Thanks in advance.

Ironically, in our 2004 PF, the BOSE sounds base/mid heavy. There is little tweaking you can do since everything is adjusted digitally. I think ours is set to Bass +1, Treb +3. Why there is no Mid setting is beyond me. Sadly, my VW with its "kickin' " Monsoon (no sub) sounds better than the PF (no sub). I think all of the bass in the '04 PF comes from the lower front doors. (If I am wrong, please correct.)

The best thing you could do is ask the dealer to see if they can reprogram your radio. I'm not sure if this is actually possible, but it is worth a shot. (it is in VWs) Most of these digital radios have programmed values and if you can change those values, it is possible you can change the way your BOSE system sounds.

I too have heard BOSE is other vehicles and it does sound better than in the PF. Have you listened to the BOSE in the 370Z, Maxima, Altima and any other Nissan vehicles? If it does sound better in those vehicles, try to find out what is different in that vehicle to make is sound better. It could be that the PF is just a crappy environment for good audio. Or it could be that BOSE/Nissan totally dropped the ball on the audio system designed and figured that most people won't care.

Sucks that you would need to swap out the factory premium radio for something else just cuz is sounds like poo.. GL.

You can try the tweeter mod to get some useful sound coming out of the factory tweeters.
