Hi people, I need some help with my 1996 I30. This car has the factory Bose sound system in it. The problem is that most of the time it won't work. The screen will light up with the radio station but will blink/ fade away. Sometimes it will play for a few seconds and then just stop as if the power were cut out. Also, the power antenna won't stay up or down. If the radio is blinking on and off the antenna goes up and down repeatedly. I am not sure what it is exactly but one guy told me it was the factory amplifier and that it had a short or it was broken and I would need a new stereo. He did not look at it, he just said thats what it will probably be. Any help is graciously appreciated. Thank you very much and ask questions if you need more info.

Sounds like a power supply issue for sure.

Does that mean I need a new amp for the speakers or a new HU? IS this going to be expensive to fix?

Hey, I had a similar problem, my cd player would not spin the cd. I just ripped the sucker out and installed another cd player. It's most likely in your head unit.

If you need any kind of pictures or help taking out your cd player, LET ME KNOW!

Ok, so changing the HU will be my best bet? I have heard that I will need a special adapter in order to use the Bose speakers, can I buy this adapter at typical auto stores? Also, is there an information page for changing the HU on an I30, in other words a page that shows how to disect the dash? Thanks for your replies.

Try Crutchfield.com. They will supply you with the wiring harness you need for the Bose amp and speakers.
