I have the bose system in my 2001 pathfinder le. The bass does does not sound like it hits hard, but it does make my review mirror shake. My 97 maxima's bose system thumped pretty good. Is there a sub woofer with this model or is it possible the amp is not working, or is that just how it is in this model?

Mine thumps pretty hard and makes the rearview shake, but I'm not an audiophile -- to me, the stock Bose system sounds excellent. I do recall the 97 Maxima's Bose system though -- it did seem to hit pretty hard..

As for a sub, I don't think there is a separate one.

i have the same truck. there is no subwoofer with the bose system but it should sound decent, nothing too special but decent (better than most vehicles. i dont know about the maxima. just add one it doesnt need to be big or anything. personnaly i did go big i have 2 kenwood 12's in the back it sounds amazing. but i didnt need to replace any factory speakers or amps they sound awesome and i can still play my highs over the sub

your amp should have come with a 'high level input' connector. you can split the wires on the rear speakers and use the high level from there to run the amp instead of RCAs from the deck. then you can use any wire that carries any amount of voltage strip it add a wire run it to a switch and then to the remote on the amp. so you can go back to stock whenever you feel like it, at the flick of a switch.

hope this helps

Exactly correct. Ive had setups like this before.... but instead of running a switch on the remote wire, I would simply use the "fade/bal" function on the stock deck to go only to the front speakers.... voila no bass.... but a switch would work nicely too

i'm not a fan of the pathfinder sound system either

1st of all for a high end brand such as Bose Audio the bass is ratherhorrible....it starts off punchy and gets all distorted and muddy at higher volumes..secondly,specially when playing a CD there isnc't much highs (treble) coming out either despite having a set of tweetersand the max volume is quite limited for a sound system with external amps

i am about a week away from installing my sound system into my pathfinderif anyone knows the PAC adapter to use to bypass the amp...that would be great....and the steering wheel adapter as well

thanks

Just remember the old saying "No Highs, no Lows, it's gotta be Bose"

I've got the PAC steering wheel adapter, (actually, on my second one, first used IR, now it's a direct input to the rear of the deck) it's fairly easy to install. You have to cut into a harness on the back of the radio though.. I believe there are 3 harnesses, 2 for power and signal, and the other for the steering wheel controls..

I just finished my system yesterday, taking pics today. If you talk to any pro audio guy/gal, bose is at the bottom of the list, I doubt you would see them in a real audiophile's home theatre. Their claim to fame is that they have crossovers(equalizers) built into their speakers which "sweetens" the sound by dropping the mids and boosting the lows and highs. This might sounds good to the untrained ear, but what you're really getting is a false reproduction of sound. Personally I want to hear what the record I'm listening to was intended to sound like. It's the equivalent of watching a film without any green in it.

Amps these days, which I recently found out, come with external controls which can be mounted anywhere. My sub amp came with a gain control which I pulled out of it's cheesy casing, removed the LED with a dremmel, and mounted it to the side of my navigation deck. Now I don't have to go through the menus of my deck to control the gain of my subs.

I doubt any of this nonsensical jibba jabba helps, it's just the way I chose to do the sound in my vehicle. BTW bose doesn't include subs in any of their car audio systems, at lease none that I know of. JBL does and their systems IMO sound much better.
