Better to replace the whole system. My shop can do a CD deck and 4 speakers for around $500 installed. If you did it yourself you could spend less.

How so? Is it the buttons/display, or is the sound quality/volume going?

For most, the factory Bose suffices, but for others they must choose between the total replacement cost and how much sound they want. Good sound quality is not cheap, and a complete re-wire if replacing the Bose will be costly as well.

I'm not sure what the Bose system is like in the Maximas, but I know the speakers are somewhat decent in the first gen Qs. I replaced my Bose headunit with a Kenwood and tossed some Infiniti 12s in the back and I'm relatively satisfied - until I have the cheese and time to put in an Infiniti component set. It's the wiring that's the killer. The amped speakers in the Bose system mean the wiring isn't meant to conduct power, so all new wiring has to be run if you want to replace the speakers with anything after-market.

Not true. You can use the Bose wiring, either the power or signal(i'd use the power), to carry power from an amplifier to the door speakers. It's much easier that way.

Besides, you're more then likely not going to be drawing more then 10 amps through the speaker wires. So they'll be fine

*edit* LOL, I just looked at the date
