Hello,

I am new here, but have found there to be tons of help and knowledge across the forum.

For my first post, I was wondering about replacing the factory bose head unit on my 2000 QX4 with an aftermarket Kenwood one with bluetooth and aux capabilities. I have the 6 disc CD changer underneath the passenger seat.

I have not really found anything specific to this system, but some people say that when replacing the system, the CD changer will only communicate with the factory stereo and not an aftermarket one.

Does anyone have experience with this? I'd like to keep the CD changer and just replace the head unit.

Thanks!

Everything I've seen here about the CD changer is that you pretty much get rid of it if you upgrade the stereo because you won't get it to work with anything else. I know what you mean though; it was built to occupy that space and nothing else will fit as well as it does. If it's any consolation, the CD changers tend to grenade when they're this old, so it's likely only a matter of time before yours bites the dust anyway.

Spend a $100 on an iPod (or your phone or a thumb drive) and get a decent head unit, and you'll be so much happier! Being able to see things like the artist, track name, album, and sometimes even the album artwork is so much more satisfying than just the track number! If you wanted to take it a bit further, you can install an amp where the CD changer used to be.
