Bose stereo repairs??? I need a little help fast, if possible, for my 1990 Q45.

I've got the Bose stereo head unit and all four amplifiers in a box ready to send to: Factory Car Stereo Repair, Inc.1978 Corporate Square Suite 102Longwood, FL 32750Phone: (407) 327-5033http://www.carstereohelp.com

I've looked all over their web site, talked on the phone, followed their links to BBS, recommendations from customers and dealers, etc. Seems like a good outfit.

Has any body on these boards had any dealings with this company? I would appreciate a speedy reply if you have. I'm still a little nervous about doing any business over the web. But there is no place local I feel good about.

Thanks,Erni

You might send it to the Bose factory. I think they are in Mass. the toll free # to talk to them is 800-231-2673

I'm with 911/Q45 - the Bose factory has gotten very competitive on pricing and offers a lifetime warranty on repairs. I think it's $75 each on amps, and includes new speaker cones. What's wrong with the radio? I have a spare for your 90 that might work if you're interested...

Thanks guys ( for responding so quickly). I tried Bose. Not very pleased with their robotic system. I like to talk to real people.

If I get burned, Heath, I just might be talking to you about your radio.

Thanks, Ernie

BTW Heath, the tape deck does not work. Makes a loud POP when the radio is first turned on. Just bought the car, don't have any prior knowledge to base assumptions on, no base line.

STOP! HOLD THE FORT! If you (or previous owners) took advantage of Infiniti recall for the rear amps - a couple of years back - and they were replaced by the dealer, BOSE will repair and rebuild your front amps, at no charge, other than your cost to mail to them. Heath told me about this, and it works! I will send you the BOSE 1 800 # and the lady to speak with as soon as I find it! (Or. Heath might weigh in with it!) And, I have used the guys in Florida for repairs to both the Q and M head units. Always tape problems, though, never with the radio function! I am satisfied, contrary to a shop I had used which was in Tennessee. With Q having all 4 amps rebuilt, the sound is quite nice, thank you!

FWIW: The "pop" is the speaker amps powering up, they will need to be repaired by changing the Capacitors, but it's not really head unit related. I doubt the tape player problem is anything more than a broken belt, which your local stereo shop should be able to change for a few bucks, probably less than shipping on the headunit. You may want to just fix it yourself or pull it out and have a local repair shop change the belt.

Unfortunately, the recall on the speakers doesn't apply to the '90 models. They were either overcoated to prevent seepage, or they were a different design altogether.

I can't speak for the outfit you're inquiring about but I sent my unit to another place in Cocoa, FL and they did a great job. All is as good as new. The unit was back to me 4 days after I sent it to them. I was impressed - I also got to talk to the guy doing the repair on the phone. He tested the entire unit and found the power connection was loose on the circuit board and fixed it for no additional charge. He also cleaned the laser pickup for the CD player.

That may not sound like a big deal but I'd definitely use them again if I need to.

Check them out...... http://soundrepair.com/

My 97 J30 headunit would not play some cds, and plays none of my cdrs. I've tried cleaning the laser lens with a cd cleaner disc with no success. Is Bose the ideal place to send the head unit in? Does anyone know how what's the going rate to fix the lens? Thanks.

I am looking to get my head unit repaired and have looked at a few on the web. I also called Bose, but they recommend that the dealer fix it. See Below. I think I will stick with the web repair shops that give one year and I do not have to deal with a dealer and their high labor costs

"I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with the Bose (R) MusicSystem in your 1993 Infiniti J30. The speakers and amplifiers aremanufactured by Bose Corporation and the radio/cassette/cd portion of thesystem is manufactured by Clarion Corporation in Gardena, CA. "

"When the system is serviced through an Infiniti dealership, they will removethe radio and send it to Clarion Corporation for repair or they willexchange the speakers for remanufactured units through Clarion Corporation."

"Please visit your local Infiniti dealership or contact Clarion Corporationat (800) 347-8667 for information regarding a direct exchange. "

"Please be aware of the differences between visiting the dealership andsending your unit direct through Clarion Corporation "

1.) Clarion services dealerships first (so it is typically a little fasterthrough the dealership)

2.) The warranty through the dealership is 12 months.

3.) The warranty direct through Clarion Corporation is 90 days.

4.) The exchange price for a remanufactured speaker through the dealershipis $125 plus a labor fee.

5.) The exchange price for a remanufactured speaker through ClarionCorporation is $120.

Any more info on this? Searched other strings and found none. This is exactly my situation, replacing the fronts afther the rear amps were done by dealer. Called Bose and left voice mail........ no reply as Paul McCarney would sing......

What if I'm not sure the previous owner took advantage of this recall? And does the 95 J30 fit into this recall business as well?

When I had problems with the Bose system in my 93 J I called Bose and a lady named Marilyn referred me to carstereohelp.com or Clarion directly. I didnt use either as I replaced the head unit, but if Bose is referring them, I dont see why you should be apprehensive sending it to carstereohelp.com. There are even people on Ebay who offer that service for $135. Just an FYI.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Factory Car Stereo Repair in Longwood, FL. I used them recently and Bob is very professional and very thorough in fixing the problems. I have a '95 J30t and my Bose head unit quit displaying the station numbers and things plus I kept getting an error message when playing CD's. I sent it to him and with repair time, which turnaround is about 8 days, plus shipping time it took about two weeks from time sent til time received back. He even fixed the power button that I had glued back on without me asking him to. The total bill was $202.00 (including all shipping to and from) and was well worth it. He also gives a one year warranty. I personally spoke with Bob concerning the repairs and he did a great job of explaining what was wrong with it and what he did to fix it.

I would recommend Factory Car Stereo Repair to anyone. Especially those of us who have Luxury cars with crappy Clarion head units with Bose slapped on it. Use FCSR, you won't be disappointed.

For my 92 Q...

I went to the junk yard to replace a popping, crackling amp and picked up a used amp for $36 from a 92 Maxima. It was dead.

Took it back, tried a 93 Maxima amp, it worked, then died a week later, then started working again.

Took it back, exchanged again for an amp out of a 95 Mazda Milennia. It seems to have some sort of oily coating. It works great, and sounds loud and clear. No problems for two weeks now.

Junkyards often give 6-12 month warranties. And there's no shipping or waiting. If this one goes out again, the yard just got two 97 Q45s I can also swap with.

The rears are fine, they were covered by the recall.

What year was this recall? And what years/models did it cover?

Clarion... never had a problem with anything Clarion, ever, in any of my cars. Including a 1988 Nissan Sentra with a premium Clarion head unit, replaced in 1998 by a Clarion CD player.

Bose... all the amps snap, crackle, and pop. For home audio, they went down the drain a few years ago. Sound is better than average, but not for the price paid and the mediocre quality.

I have had two Clarions in earlier cars and I stopped buying them because they were crap. I was not happy about finding out some years back that my $40K J had one in it.

Oh well, fix it and move on. I am the type of person that likes my car with factory stock (for teh most part), that is why I fixed the head unit that came with the car. I realize that someone who likes stock is a minority on here, but hey what can I say.

Don't get upset. Different tastes for different people. I am just saying that I personally will never buy another Clarion. That's all.

Search and see if your car meets the criteria for the recall:
