i have a 96 Q45. i am wondering if the bose speakers are usable with a different head unit. i know this is not a preffered system, but i need to know if i will be able to use these speakers with the h/u until i have the money to buy new speakers. thanks in advance. -marty

Speakers are "amp'ed" and require a specific millivolt output. I think someone has used some adapters, or wired around the amp at each speaker, but it's a very big undertaking to use the stock speakers with another HU or replace the entire system.

I think there's a few posts, you might try a search for Bose AND Speakers (when search is working right again).

Good Luck

I have had an aftermarket head unit with the stock Bose speakers, and had to use the adapter. It didn't sound wonderful, but I have heard that others like it. When you get money for new speakers it will be a big difference! I changed only the two front speakers first and noticed a huge difference right away! When i changed the back ones too, it was so much better. You could raise the volume so much higher with out any distorting noises that i heard with the adapter. :)
