I was able to mix match parts on 3 separate bad Bose units and make a good working radio. I figured I had better share my results. One unit had a working radio and tape deck, one had a working CD player, but bad radio and the third had a good face unit. So, I had a day off and was determined to get some music in my car. The console was easier to get into than I thought.
First, remove the little cover between the arm rest compartment and the cup holders. It pulls right out, no screws. There are 2 screws under that that release the cup holder and the compartment. Then the vinal peice around the shifter snaps right out as well. There are 2 screws that hold the fake wood dash cover in place the top is held in by clips streight in towards the front of the car. Before pulling this out, you need to start the car and shift the car down to get the shifter out of the way. Before you pull the bottom of the pannel out take a pocket knife and pry the top clips out. There you go, the radio unit is exposed.
The radio is held in by 4 easy screws and has the 4 things plugged in the back including the power. after removing all the visable screws on the unit the face and the top and bottom housing plates can be pried apart, exposing the innards. The CD player was an easy removal 4 screws and the pin connector. If your CD player is bad you can easily replace it without buying a whole new unit. This was a real easy job. The CD player is grounded by the top plate. It wont work with it removed. The opposite to reinstall! The bottom chip board can be replaced as well, but there are no screws. Solder points have to be unsoldered to remove it, but it can be done. You will need a solder iron and needle nose to untwist the clasps.
