Bose radio extra plug? And what is the 8 pin plug?

Just pulled the Bose radio out of 03 QX4.

My metra harness plugs into two from the car but the car has one more plug. What is that extra plug for? (it had three wires: red, red with white stripe and
blue with yellow (or orange) stripe)

Also, the car has a round (looks like a s-video) 8 pin plug? What is this one?

I assume one is for for steering wheel controls?

The 8-pin plug is most likely for the rear TV option. It looks like this, right?

left to right: two adapters that fit Metra 70-7551, the extra adapter (what is it used for?), the 8 pin adapter (?), and then the antenna. thanks for any info

Huh, I'm not sure what the extra harnesses are for. I'd say they are most likely for the rear TV option since it was probably more common to have pre-wired on QX4s given they are luxury vehicles. My Pathfinder does not have those extra harnesses in the stereo cluster area.

If I remember correctly, the harness in the second picture is for steering wheel control. Do you have one on your steering wheel?

I had steering wheel controls and do not remember seeing that 3-wire harness.

Yea i have steering controls. Based on a few things I've seen, I'm also leaning towards the white harness with three wires as being steering wheel controls. (also, saw somethig that indicated the speed sensor for volume adjust might be one of the three wires)

Still stuck on the black 8 pin one. Rear TV sounds logical but it was plugged into back of the Bose radio and it has no controls for TV. Any chance this has anything to do with the CD changer (maybe from head unit to amp?). This one is so unique that I thought it would be easy to figure out its purpose.....

When I installed the sub in my old Pathfinder I found two of these. One near the driverside kickplate and one at the amp. Strange...

The two you found: they were they 8 pin round plugs...were they connected to anything or just sitting there in case needed?

Town, I think you are correct, it is an Aux plug of some kind (TV, CD Changer, or other). Best buy guy said that kind of plug is all that could be for). It was plugged into my radio so guessing the other end is sitting empty (maybe in back or kickplate) in case an Aux device is added.

The other white/three-wire harness has to be steering wheel controls.

So, not 100% but pretty much resolved.

Now time to slide in the new radio I guess....
