Hello all, I'm a new Z32 owner and I want to upgrade my stereo. I installed a new pioneer head unit only to learn that it's not compatible with the bose amps and speakers  . So I did some reasearch and found that a line level converter would solve my problem, but I cant seem to find one that works for the 1990 model. Does anyone have any info? I would like to try this before I go ahead and replace all of the speakers. Thanks!

you need to wire in a power on signal from the head unit for the factory amps to turn on, then youll get sound. i have a pioneer head unit on stock amps and speakers and couldnt figutre it out for a month until i read some other posts about them. i cant remember which color wire it is for the amps tho. ill try to have a look sometime this week.

The line level converter should solve your problem, and it's a pretty standard Scosche part. If the Bose in a 300ZX is anything like the system in my Infiniti Q45 which also has a full Bose speaker setup, you want this:

Scosche SLC-4

I don't think you'll need anything much more specific than that, but you will definitely want to pay attention to what the earlier post said about wiring in the head unit. The 300ZX harness can be kind of tricky, and doesn't work well with some systems even after all the Bose gear has been ripped out unless you make sure to wire in that power on line. Search the forums for info on that.

Thanks for the help, guys! I called crutchfield and they hooked me up with the correct LOC. Now to find out if all the Bose speakers/amps still work.

i installed my alpine head unit and 6.5s (x4) and bypassed all the bose pre amps and speakers. i think thats the best way to go . that way you have control over everything in your system and not left d!ck around with mixing and matching equipment
