Hey guys/gals, The deck in my 04 g35 sedan has begun to die out, sometimes either on the left or right channel. This usually happens when I'm listening to CDs(retail). If I switch to am/fm I get both channels back, switch back to cd get both back (for a short time, vice versa). Anyways, this is only going to accelerate my plans regarding a stereo upgrade. I have the nav/bose upgrade in the car, was wondering if it's possible to keep the nav functional whilst using a different head unit. I am also curious to know if it's possible to retain the steering wheel functionality with an upgraded deck.

On a side note, it's nice to find out you have an extra $900 sitting around(from months back) that work owes you, due to expenses. :D ***bonus***

Woohoo. Upgrading stereos. I'm not positive on how the factory nav is wired, so let me take a look at that before I tell you that you can use it or not.

You will be able to keep the steering wheel functionality, but you have to buy another part for that. Take that $900 and buy the new Alpine DD unit and tell me how you like it.

I'll be back.

Well the FSM didn't provide me with what I was looking for, so hopefully someone else who knows if the OEM nav can be used will pop in. The only thing you'd really need to do is be able to hook up the nav to audio inputs on the receiver as far as I can tell. Whether there's an adapter for that I'm not sure. That's the only problem I see you running into.

Well, If anyone wants a stock nav system from a 2004... I'll take er out and sell it.. I like the idea of having a blackbird and docking it in the deck. :D

have you checked mygfrenzy.com or g35driver.com, there are DIY's in there that will allow you to use your navi screen and use the aftermarket setup.

The navigation is a completely separate unit from the stereo - although they share the same housing. So you can install just about any aftermarket deck you would like - you navigation remains pop up as is - the one kicker is that you have to replace that part of the console with a kit that costs about $250-$300. It eliminates the dual climate controls (I've never used them and the coupe is small enough not to need TWO zones) - and the kit allows you to install a single or double DIN head unit. Eventually I may do a Double Din unit with a screen for DVDs.

Do a search - I believe the kit is a JDM part - so search for Infiniti G35 JDM Stereo Conversion Kit or something like that. That said - I don't know about the steering wheel controls - there may be an item for that as well.

yes you can get a pac swi-x that will allow you to use your steering wheel controls with an aftermarket unit. There is also a way to take the button off of the oem ac controls and use the button for the dual climate and solder it on to the new ac controller
