bose mp3 player for 99 i30

Has anyone installed this mp3 player in their i30 before? Im curious how the fit is. Im leaning towards getting it, but want to make sure the wiring is the same and that there are no gaps around the player after install.Model # of unit is 28185 -A420 Ref # is CQ-EN7461X

OK. I went ahead and bought it. It fits the opening in the dash perfectly. I had to redrill a hole on each side of the head unit because the holes didnt line up. They were about a half inch off which woulda had the head unit sticking out about that much. The wire harnesses fit perfectly, but I am wondering why there is extra inputs on the back of the unit. In the following picture, the only inputs used are the ones circled and the antenna of course. Anyone know what the others are for. Maybe for use in a different vehicle or something.



Another thing. My stock unit had 2 extra harnesses that didnt fit any of these holes. One had 3 wires that looked like power, ground and accessory. And another with more wires. Im pretty sure that it is for the 6 disc cd changer that is under my passenger seat. The new head unit is a 6 disc changer in itself so its not necessary to have it hooked up if that is what the extra inputs are for.

A great buy nonetheless. Having over 4 gigs of mp3s without having to change a disc is priceless. Next is the pac adapter and adding my subs that have been sitting useless in my room.

I realize that this belongs in a different category, but I dont know how to move it and didnt want to start another thread.

Let's see...The '99 I30 had a optional hands-free phone connection option which would use one or two of the plugs, but other than that I am not sure. The FSM does not go over all the plug options, just the speaker and antenna connections.

Did some more research. After bout 2 hours, I found this. Quoted from another nissan forum. (would post link, but not sure if its allowed here)

It's a OEM Bose w/amplifier (in the trunk) and has SAT controls.There are 6 pin, 10 pin, 16 pin and 12 pin connectors, along with the antenna connection.

The 6 pin is the Rear Speakers and Power to the amp.

The 10 pin is the Front Speakers and Head Unit (HU) power.

The 16 pin only has 3 wires connected to it, which is for the Steering Wheel Controls (SWC) and consequently if not connected, will not allow the audio controls, including the TRIP button, to work. It also appears to be what would be controlling the Nav/GPS if there was one installed and any hands free Telephone features as well.

The 12 pin, I'm still not sure what it's for. It's got wires to Lin+/-, Rin+/-, Tx, Rx and REQ and Grnd. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Speed Sensative volume and gains the volume to the Lin/Rin based on what it receives from the computer? If it's unplugged, everything still works...not sure about the Speed/Volume thingy though as I didn't drive it around.

So i guess its pointless to try to use them unless i feel like installing my own steering wheel controls.

As for the extra wires left. It's either like you said audtatious, or for my cd changer. Either way, the changer is broken and im gonna remove it.

So I installed the PAC AOEM-NIS2 OEM-1 adapter and hooked up my amp and subs. I proceed to turn on the cd player to hear no sound from the subs. I look at my amp to find that there are no lights on. Must be the remote. I touched the remote to the power with a pair of pliers and boom, I have bass. So I figure that my remote wire is bad. Ran a temp one on the outside of the car to check. Nope. That didnt work either. WTF. OK, I bite the bullet and open up my dash. As Im looking at the wiring, I notice that they spliced the antenna remote as the amp remote. How retarded is that? The amp would only turn on when I put the radio on. I simply cut that wire and spliced it into the stock amp remote wire and all is fixed. Goes to show you. Never close up your dash until you are sure that everything is working. Has anyone else ran into this problem with the PAC adapter?

Yea, the adapter works great after i had to tweak it. Im not pissed off about it, just found it a bit weird that they would wire it like that. I messaged the guy i bought it from about it and he said i did the right thing and that it did not void its warranty.

I got the head unit for bout 220 after shipping and everything. There is only one ebay place that has them for sale all the time and the reserve bidding is at about 190. I have seen other people randomly put these up that went for less, so if you are patient, you can come accross one for like 100 or so. I love the unit. Besides having to drill a hole on each side of the bracket that holds it in the dash, the install was seamless. It has nice controls on it like adjustable bass, mid, and treble and a knob to tune the tracks easier so you dont have to hit forward like 100 times to get to the mp3 you want. I think its well worth the 220 I paid for it. I wish i knew what the pinouts were for the extra clips in the back. Maybe i could put them to use.

I used to be a big aftermarket blow your ears out stereo person. Now after losing some of my hearing, ive decided to stick with the bose and add a little base with my subs. Besides, a stock head unit is less appealing to theives.
