So a few of my coworkers have Infinitis, G's, M's, FX's, and a few others have other cars with Bose systems. It seems that I am the only one that thinks Bose in general is crap for what it's worth...suppose to be. This cars Bose to the side, I've had others with Bose...Lexus, Acura, Benz, and was never impressed. And notice every one of them have moved on from Bose. Also notice Bose never puts out the specs on their systems, while everyone else is not afraid to.
So I was asked what I expect to get in a stock system, that I shouldn't expect aftermarket performance. I said, I don't expect the thing to shake the block, that's not what I want. What I do expect is proper base response, what I do expect is no distortion in vocals at 1/2 to 3/4 the volume of the system...they say they don't hear distortion...I say then you shouldn't be inputting your opinion on what a good system should sound like. :chuckle:
When I listen to other premium OEM systems Harman/Kardon, Acura ELS, Lexicon, and especially Mark Levinson, they sound WAY better. I'm especially surprised about Acura since, I believe, ELS is their own build. There are a couple others that I would say are on par and better.
My opinion on Bose is it is a well marketed company, nothing more. Maybe once upon a time they were the one to be associated with, but def not now. Bose is what Sony was 10 years ago, a company relying on its name. Even Sony, which I don't really like in general, to me has better sound systems that Bose.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting the world from car audio, but I've been in cars where I thought, that sounds beautiful, then to hear this "premium" system has me mad lol.
Again, not going after Infinitis Bose in general, but am I the only one that feels this way about Bose in general?

Bose sucks! The Boston Acoustics in my 300C was head over shoulders over it. I realize it's the only complaint I have about my car, but dang it, it's a big one. And from what I gather updating it's not straight-forward without dropping some major money into it. I like good audio just like the next guy, but I can't justify spending at least 1/4 of the car's worth on audio upgrades.

Just my $.02

Hmmm, I do agree BOSE sucks, but you can get a decent aftermarket system for under $1500. Now I dont know what you paid for your car but it deffinetly isnt near 1/4 of cars value.

While I don't agree that Bose sucks, I do agree that there are superior sound systems in other vehicles. I almost bought an LS460 instead of my M56 simply because of the 19-speaker Mark Levinson system. But I couldn't justify the $15,000 premium.

Part of the early marketing for the 2011 M was that the premium Bose speakers would provide the same kind of noise reduction that their headphones did, so that road and wind noise would be cancelled out. If there's any noise cancellation going on in my car, I don't notice it. Try having your passengers cover the two mics with their fingers and I bet you won't hear any difference; I sure don't.

I've never had Bose in any of my cars before. My previous car was an '04 Acura TL (LOVED that car BTW). When I was in the market for a new one even though I hated the new body style, I test drove the Acura TL. Their ELS system blows the one in my M37 away. But it wasn't a deal breaker for me. The sound is still good (and like you, I don't want the neighborhood to hear me coming a mile away), but I'm disappointed that a $50k car doesn't have a better stock system.
