About to remove mine for repair. Anyone know if this will prevent starting while unit is out? Any "work-arounds"?

No you can run the car without the head unit in...

Dont waste money on having that unit fixed, get another one from another nissan... Any bose nissan HU will work, anything from a 95+ nissan will need a $5 adapter.

Hi Elwesso,

I'm going to be taking out my '93 J30's Bose, and looking for something newer (maybe a Pathfinder or Maxima Bose from 95+). What is the name of the adapter to convert a pre 95 to a post 95 hookup? Is Radio Shack a good source?

Thanks!

don't think radioshack will have any. try car audio places. they may be able to order you one.

Ok so any 95+ will work perfectly in a 93 J30?

Now, 95+ J's I know have the tweeters, unsure about the Maxima's and Pathfinders - but it doesn't change anything having more speakers?

I'll grab one, just want to make sure its not going to sound crappier!

I don't know everyone says the OEM BOSE sucks, but mine sounds pretty decent to be honest... Base is loud, deep, etc Even cranked up it sounds pretty good, but I guess people have more audion "needs" Never really been into the whole amp/subs/etc thing!

Its not always about the thump.

OLD bose systems have the most distortion in any old stock system Ive heard.

Dont get me wrong, Im sure the 11 speaker system in the new M sounds fantastic but Im sure in about 10-15 years it will be garbage compared to whats new.

just with an experienced pair of ears my friend nothing proffesional.in my books if you can turn the unit to the max and not hear fizzing, popping and crackling its all good. sound measuring equipment prolly show different but i know when i turn it up with the windows down it sure beats the guy with the riced out civic beside me with his crackling subs.

i'm sure after market units may be better but i don't want a silver face plate in the car. trying to maintain the black clean look.although i wouldn't mind a double-din DVD player in its place tho.

Seems you're more concerned with asthetics than sound. Thats cool. I know a nice working Bose system may sound ok for most people, for me it doesnt cut it.

I need loud deep pure uncut bass. Im a BASS junkie.
