I've heard that the Bose 6-disc CD players seem to have a short life expectancy. Ive got an 02 I35, which would make the CD player about 6 years old and it skips like crazy. Ive noticed that it works fine in warm weather, but in winter it just sucks. Ive got a heated garage, so it doesnt even have time to get that cold inside the car. When I first start the car, it plays just fine, but about 20 minutes into listening it skips so bad it nearly won't play, or I get error messages.

Any ideas? (Ive tried cleaning it out with a cleaning CD, but nothing changed)

Sadly to say I agree ^^

It's possible that the motor that moves the laser is on it's last leg. It's possible that all of your CDs are scratched 20 mins in

Head units are a pain to diagnose unless you're an audio/electronics pro. I'd take it to a stereo repair shop or ditch it.

I do plan to ditch it, but when I do, Im going to the AVIC-D3. The stock HU needs to last until I have an extra $k to blow on the car.

I spent $80 on a broken ebay one and got it fixed at a local stereo shop. It works well, but they took their sweet time ala 2 weeks to fix it.

That's probably your only option right now.

Was that $80 spent on a broken stock HU or an AVIC-D3?

The broken HU.

$25 on ebay shipped + $80 for the repair work = $105 for a working HU.

I have the same issue... I'm really confused about what needs to be done. I would really like to keep the factory stereo its the in-dash 6 cd changer and the cassette (hey I need to listen to that air supply tape somehow). what are you folks suggesting to do??? WHat is this head unit you are talking about? is that all that needs to be replaced

You failed the pop quiz. The Head Unit is the actual radio/CD/Tape...etc that fits in dash.

You can remove yours and take it to the dealer ($250+) or to an independent stereo shop that fixes stereos. I took the latter option and paid $80.

The only difference is that I left my old Head Unit in and just had a second broken one from Ebay fixed.

Short Circuit can repair any Nissan & Infiniti OEM head units. If you are interested in a repair the cost is $225, if you have a 6 cd in-dash core that you are willing to sell we pay $50 and cover shipping.

A good core is one that has not been tampered with, abused, dropped, and or have liquid damage.

I don't want to knock one of our sponsor because I'm very grateful for their presence.

I'm not sure I would have spent 225 to fix my Bose unit though.

Exactly.

You should use your internet machine and use the ebay.

I just serviced a customer that purchased a unit on ebay, for $200+shipping. Not to bad but it only last him for 4 months. All CD changers will need to be serviced, just a matter of when. If you plan on selling the car, just get any unit that works. If you want to keep the car you might want to get it repaired. Just thought I was throw that out there.
