You have the sony 10 CD right???

You can use OEM bose headunits with in dash CD... Ask user "rex" as he's done this... Looks very clean...

Oh.. Im sorry... so you have a J30 head unit... Those are common failure items on the J...

You can get a pathfinder headunit that looks very good, and doesnt have this problem...

how did it die ? Did the display fade ? CD Skips ? Tape ERR message ? What is it ?

TO fix your bose..most simple way.. Buy a double-din headunit like a JVC/Kenwood/Pioneer with RCA pre-amplified ouputs. Buy a metra harness. Connect the amp turn-on wire to turn on the bose amps and splice the pre-amp outputs into your speaker wires. This way, when you turn on your headunit, it will send the amp turn-on signal to turn on bose amps and then the pre-amp outs will line-drive the bose amps giving sound. This works beautiful. I have the same setup in my Infiniti J30 with a pioneer headunit. Works even better than bose..

I say ditch the whole Bose system all together. It is too much of a hassle to repair and/or replace Bose stuff. Also, it can be really expensive.

I say, get a descent aftermarket Head Unit for about $90~$150. The HU should have about 17~25W RMS minimum. And then buy some "cheap" replacement speakers. THen rewire the whole system.

I bet if you asked, we could put a good system togeter for you, for about $200~$300! Is that a little too expensive for you? If not, we will help you.

Take a drive up to N.O.W. (Nissan Only Wreckers) in Rancho Cordova. It's probably 2 hours from San Jose but worth the drive. You'll be in heaven when you see everything they have...and they have everything. I was there 2 weeks ago and they had at LEAST 9 Bose headunits there from various Nissans and Infiniti's. Their price is ALWAYS reasonable and they're a little negotiable.

3561 Recycle Road #1 Rancho Cordova, Ca. 95742

(800)813-6570 you should call ahead and ask first. Closed Sundays Oh, and they do ship.....http://www.ninfiniti.com

They also offer instant help on AIM Screenname: NISSAN1PARTS

^^^ this is a good idea too. But if you were going to do it this way, I would suggest that you replace the Bose speakers with 2 or 3-way coaxials. You will find that aftermarket speakers usually sound way beter then OEM, even Bose,

There should be a small reset pin sized button on the front, have you tried that?

Another idea, is to find a small electronics place and spend $35 having them take a look at it. Most will give you partial credit of the diagnostics fee towards any repairs.

If all else fails, tak it out and open it up, the Err could be due to dust/debris blocking the laser. Just don't look directly into the laser .

A complete replace isn't necessarily a bad idea, just depends how handy you are and how long you plan on keeping the car. The labor would be somewhat high to have someone do it for you.

Thank you so much for the inputs guys!!!! you guys are GREAT!!!!!!

i've been told that most of the aftermarket system cannot compete with a working Bose system...

thats why i had all my bose speakers replaced....right now i just need a new deck and im ready to go.=====================================================metaverse3,

I like the idea of putting in a double din deck then rewire it to work with bose speakers. The thing is double din usually cost way more than the single din cd player...isnt it? also, the way to rewire also apply to single din cd player right? i was wondering if i should get the PAC audio ROEM-NIS1 converter to make aftermarket deck work with the bose amps/speakers. If i can rewire like you stated, then i can save $60 (thats how much the adaptor cost).

=====================================================PoorManQ45,

Since i got all the Bose speakers replaced. I wouldnt consider replacing the whole system at this time. But it is a good idea to save money!!! Thanks!

=====================================================Rex,

I tried to look for the reset button, but there isn't any reset button on the front. Are you sure my cd player has that? (I posted the pic in above post).Electronics store fix these thing too? I dont think i know that kind of shop around here.Is it hard to open up the cd player? what do you use to clean the laser lens?I really appreciate your help.

=====================================================gniknave,

thanks for the info. I will definitely check it out since im also looking for some exterior / interior parts for my 91 Q.

Why would you mess with rewiring and buying new speakers if your existing amps/speakers work fine ? Using RCA pre-outs on the headunit is the most economical way to go and a tried and tested method. A double din headunit is indeed a bit more expensive. If you can get a radio pocket that will fit the Q45, you can get a single Din unit with the preouts and follow the method I outlined below. The Q45's radio space is very strange. it does not fit the classified method of single din, 1 1/2 din, or double din. It will always leave gaps or not sit flush at the edges. Don't buy pac adapters, just wasting money. Rather, use it towards a nice headunit. Check out this posting at yahoo groups that I posted a couple of months ago.. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/...43841

I'm assuming that was directed at me.

I just suggested getting aftermarket speakers, and using the Bose amps to power them.

The Bosa amps are running at 1 Ohm at probably close to 1% THD. If you double the Ohms, to 2 Ohms or even four Ohms, the Total Harmonic Distortion is decreased to approximately the same factor as the Ohms were increased. That's one reason I always recommended running an Amp at a higher Ohm load

About the pre-amps: That seems to be the best idea. Just use the pre-outs to a converter that changes the signal to something the Bose amps can use.

Anyway, how much would it cost to actually replace all the Bose speakers with amps? I'll guess somewhere around $1000 new. For that price, you good get a used Nak 700 deck with a descent amp, and some new speakers . Nak is 10x >>>>>>>>>>>Bose .

Oh, Panosonic makes an HU that puts out 60W RMS x 4. I think it costs around $400. That would be an excellent deck to use . You wouldn't even need external amps.

Hey Boxpwr,

I just put an aftermarket system on my Q so I have a Stock Bose unit sitting here let me know if you are interested.

I took off the Stock BOSE headunit 2 weeks ago and the system is working perfectly.

I'm getting mine rebuilt as we speak for $150 for the fronts, and the rears for free (I told them it was a recall even though I have a 90 and the recall is on the 91's). If I didn't enjoy the Bose from my (or formerly mine) I30 then I wouldn't have bothered.

Yeah, I know about the free repair on recall, but I was tlaking about if you would have to replace the whole system bu buying it new from Bose

Huh ? Nothing was directed at you. Just trying to save the guy some work. Of course that would indeed be the ultimate solution..new speakers, wiring, and headunit.. I was just trying to save some time. Besides, the damn speakers can be a pita.. specialized 4" bose speakers with specialized 5.925234" rear speakers. Bose can't make anything standard...

There is no Bose CD player, only the Sony 10 disc which came from the factory. 6 disc CD player mounted under rear parcel shelf is a dealer add-on.

Try pulling the controller plug in the trunk and reconnecting it. I went over a speed bump the other day and generated the dreaded ERR code. Resetting it this way allowed the "stuck" disc to be retrieved and it has played on happily since.

I can say that is the greatest way to do it for the Sony, mine had the same problem, unplugged it, plugged it in, 10 disc goodness now
