^^^ this is a good idea too. But if you were going to do it this way, I would suggest that you replace the Bose speakers with 2 or 3-way coaxials. You will find that aftermarket speakers usually sound way beter then OEM, even Bose,metaverse3 wrote:how did it die ? Did the display fade ? CD Skips ? Tape ERR message ? What is it ?
TO fix your bose..most simple way.. Buy a double-din headunit like a JVC/Kenwood/Pioneer with RCA pre-amplified ouputs. Buy a metra harness. Connect the amp turn-on wire to turn on the bose amps and splice the pre-amp outputs into your speaker wires. This way, when you turn on your headunit, it will send the amp turn-on signal to turn on bose amps and then the pre-amp outs will line-drive the bose amps giving sound. This works beautiful. I have the same setup in my Infiniti J30 with a pioneer headunit. Works even better than bose..
I'm assuming that was directed at me.metaverse3 wrote:Why would you mess with rewiring and buying new speakers if your existing amps/speakers work fine ? Using RCA pre-outs on the headunit is the most economical way to go and a tried and tested method.
I'm getting mine rebuilt as we speak for $150 for the fronts, and the rears for free (I told them it was a recall even though I have a 90 and the recall is on the 91's). If I didn't enjoy the Bose from my (or formerly mine) I30 then I wouldn't have bothered.PoorManQ45 wrote:Anyway, how much would it cost to actually replace all the Bose speakers with amps? I'll guess somewhere around $1000 new.
Yeah, I know about the free repair on recall, but I was tlaking about if you would have to replace the whole system bu buying it new from Bosegniknave wrote:I'm getting mine rebuilt as we speak for $150 for the fronts, and the rears for free (I told them it was a recall even though I have a 90 and the recall is on the 91's). I can say that is the greatest way to do it for the Sony, mine had the same problem, unplugged it, plugged it in, 10 disc goodness nowmaxnix wrote:There is no Bose CD player, only the Sony 10 disc which came from the factory. 6 disc CD player mounted under rear parcel shelf is a dealer add-on.
Try pulling the controller plug in the trunk and reconnecting it. I went over a speed bump the other day and generated the dreaded ERR code. Resetting it this way allowed the "stuck" disc to be retrieved and it has played on happily since.
