Could be anything. Does it work normally after you turn it on or keep screeching?

You probably have a wiring problem somewhere or the HU is toast. Is the sound coming primarily from one side, one speaker or all speakers?

I never spend money on stereo products anymore, been there , done that. 6000 watt system in my 93 buick you could hear me from a mile away. However when my stocker goes dead, I won't spend money to fix a stocker, go aftermarket.

generally, that is a problem with one of the amps.

The 3rd gen Bose has an amplifier for each speaker. There are ways to take them apart and solder them. I have never done it, but I imagine a little google searching or digging through the maxima.org stickies could net you some results.

If you are intent with keeping the Bose, I guess you could just figure out which amp it is and go to a lot of junkyards and try to find a replacement. They are not too hard to get out of both the front and the rear. The front has an enclosed pod that includes the amp and speaker. The rear ones come out from underneath in the trunk (not from inside the cabin). Unless you can get them cheap, I probably wouldn't bother, though. These cars are all 12+ years old and the speakers are paper and the amps aren't made very well.

My advice is to save up for a decent stereo and ditch the Bose. They are not very compatible with aftermarket stuff. You have to buy a harness, HU, front speakers and rear speakers, then either replace the speaker wires or bypass the amps and use the tiny Bose wiring.

On my car, I ran RCAs to an amp in the trunk and then quality speaker wire from the trunk to my doors where I have 6.5" speakers. In the rear, I am using 6x9s running off the HU power, with amps bypassed on factory wires. I also have a subwoofer in the trunk, but that is extra stuff.

Agreed.Take this opportunity to get rid of the BOSE. You'll find that Nissan BOSE systems (especially those from early 90s models like the Maxima and Q) sound horrible and cause tons of problems. I'm very glad my car has the base Clarion system...much more aftermarket compatible and generally just better all around.

That is weird cause I have had my bose stock radio hooked up to aftermarket amplifier and subwoofers for a little while now. And never had a single issue with mines. Maybe it is only with the older models?
