So i mentioned it in another thread, but i didn't wanna jack it. So heres my question, i asked if boring to say a 2.2 would be good, they said that it would be a terrible idea on stock sleeves...so i was wondering if i had it resleeved and then bored it, would that hold boost well, and spool a larger turbo?

I know that boring wont affect revving nearly as much as stroking...so i wanted to do that...

Opinions?Flamings?Alternatives?

why not spend that large sum of money used to boring the sr to build up a KA24. you get another .2 liters.

the topic has been discussed many times and the consenus is that unless you live in japan and can't get a ka24de then boring the sr is jsut not cost effective.

Uhm, i decided that i have a fat machining hookup, and just need to know what to do, because the cost things not that big of an issue...

so anywho, i want my motor to still rev really hard and was wondering if that would hold boost good for a bigger turbo, like a gt3071r...

i don't want a ka anymore, i already have an sr, and it runs very well, i want it to beat my friends KA-T.

And besides, most of the so called "Discussions" on here are about the stroking + boring or just stroking. Which IS stupid $. I cant seem to find hardly anything about simply boring alone, well, and sleeving.

you did say cost isnt a big issue so then why should the method used to get to 2.2 litres be an issue? Stroking is the safest way to get to that goal, to bore that engine to 2.2 without stroking at all is a bit risky and sleeves will set you back a hell of alot but if your hell bent on doing it then buy some proper sleeves, pull out the old ones, put in the new ones, bore its a$$ out and get some nice forged internals. No reason why that shouldnt hold a fair amount of boost.

mine is out to a 2.1, the sleeves are big enough I could take it to a 2.2 safely tho. The installation of the sleeves wasn't really that much. And I'm running a T04B90 turbo, spools just fine. So if you want to do it, I've done it and it works.

How long have you had the motor running like that? Miles?

You're thinking of stroking. BIG difference.

Darton makes sleeves for the SR for up to 90mm. That's good for 2.2 I'd say, go for it. I plan on going a similar route when I spin a bearing.

haha, so you plan on spinning that bearing?

Thanks everyone for all the info. i was thinking that this seemed logical, because people were boring .2 and stroking .2 to get to the 2.4 of the ka...and that is a dumb way to waste money. But the boring seems to be a pretty good all around idea.

Stroking is wayyy too expensive...while my motor is out, im just gonna get my crank machined and get the right bearings...still have some to learn about that tho.
