I am having my block for my redtop sr20det bored .40 over to eliminate some deep scoring in cylinder 2. Planning on a fully built motor: CP pistions (.40 over), eagle rods, acl race bearings, cometic headgasket, arp rod and main studs, crower stg 2 cams and springs/retainers, to be run on the stock t25 for a few months at 14psi once broken in, and then upgrade to a 2871r about three months down the road to be run around 18psi. My question is: Am i going to run into any major problems with my cylinder walls being bored that far? I am by no means new to the sr, just to boring the block. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and the sooner the better considering the block is at the machine shop as we speak....thanks alot guys!

Personally speaking, I feel that boring .040" over weakens the walls too much. They get pretty thin from a .020" overbore, and at .040" I would start considering sleeving. That's just my .02 cents though. I'm sure that someone will pop up now and say that they overbored .040" and have been running strong and fine for a while now (which I'm hoping to be the case as I enjoy being wrong on some issues time to time)

I would recommend you get a better headgasket. If you do some product reviews, you'll fnid that cometics aren't that great. They seem to be hit or miss as I've seen people use them and never have an issue, but then others have leakage problems

As far as the crower gear, are you getting Crower brand or Brian Crower? There's a big difference.

i would see if you can first go .020" and be safe. unless your machine shop already told you that you had to go .040"

What in the world? You bumped a 2 year old thread to say to not use cometic?
