Hey, I'm new here, and i have basic, but decent knowledge of cars.I searched google a little bit, but really didn't come up with much, but i bought my s13 about a year ago and it was a lemon, bah, w/e, but it's been in the shop for a while and i have an opportunity to get it bored out to a 2.6 ltr and and bigger pistons. I know I will see a fairly good difference in the compression rate and torque, which will be good...but I'm not sure if this will be a good idea since, well I'm pretty sure, I will be losing some RPMs...So my questions are basically would this be a good idea, what are the pros and cons exactly of doing this.

is it just getting bored over or stroked too? cause i think if it gets stroked it will lose rpm red line. but i don't think boring it will cause your red line to drop. correct me if i'm wrong...

Well my aunt worked on it, and we did put a larger crank in it, which my friends is telling me is what strokin is, so i guess then yes it has been sroked, so thanks for the reply, i'm just hopin that the drop in revs won't be that bad with an increase in the torque. do u know what the drop in rpms would actually be?

i've never personally bored/stroked a motor but i don't think it's that big of a drop (like 300 rpm) or somethin like that from what i've read. hopefully someone who knows better will correct me if i'm wrong.

what "larger crank" did you use?

i think its impossible to ONLY bore a motor and reach 2.6L displacement.

well, unfortunately i'm not sure the specs of all the different parts, but basically what has happend is my engine is bored, i have bigger pistons, cams, and an even bigger crank, on top of all that i've had some head work done and my block and oil pan have had baths. so for the most part a brand newish engine. my question now is what is the best way i should go about breakin this puppy in, any tips or prior knowledge would be awesome. thanx in advance.

yo ive got exp in stroking big blocks, and i can say that you will loose some rpm not much but you gain in torque, but! you can get a light weight flywheel and underdrive pulleys and get it back in fact it will rev alot faster

I don't know about the whole crank bit BUT

The above mentioned is correct: Stroking will cause a loss in RPM's and theoretical red line.

Brian Crower makes a stroke kit to turn a KA24DE into a 2.65 liter displacement engine; but it is VERY pricey.

That's not to say it won't stand up to the abuse (although I have yet to read about anyone using it).

There are ways to increase your rev; but stroking a ka24de to gain TRQ and then putting a lightened flywheel (which causes loss at low RPMS) doesn't seem the way to go at all.

Back in the muscle car days they would place the heaviest flywheel they could find to increase the rotational mass so that the torque output would be more (please correct me if I am wrong on any of this, I would HATE to be speaking straight from my ***).

Not to be an *** but you first posted up wanting info on boring and engine. then 14 days later you say you have bigger pistons, cam, and crank but cant supply any detail as far as specs or brand name of parts. Did some one build an engine for you? Who makes a bigger crank?: maybe you just got the crank balanced. There are only 2 places that ever made a stroker kit for this engine (assuming you have a de engine.) HOw about some more specific info if you want more than just an opinion for answers.
