Saw you this morning Mike, just as you were passing Booth... I was on my way from swim practice to school.

Anyways, my schedule doesn't really allow for that, usually. This weekend and next weekend I finally have time, but a science project may be limiting what I do this weekend. My gf really wants me at a pre-Halloween Halloween party (Sat night), but I don't think my parents will let me go unless the whole science project is done...

Speaking of which, Mike, you ever built a potato gun? What are you doing Saturday afternoon?

If you are interested in a launcher, check out Mr Mills site. It is just as effective as the old school spud gun, but a lot safer. Very basic design, but it doesnt use an explosion to fire the projectile, just presurized air. They are every bit as powerfull.

propane = $2.00air compressor = expensive

but, air is more repeatable so you might look into that

Bicycle pump five bucks. or a pump to inflat car tires, 12 bucks. Make sure your pump has a pressure gauge. The pvc pipe needs to be schedule 40, for the pressure involved.

Make sure you use the purple primer, and let the cement cure for 24 hours. I had one of my original cannons blow apart. I think it was more so from age but I didn't know what I was doing back in those days.

That was the last explosive style cannon I made. Working on my second Air cannon. Check out that web site.

I will shoot you another link in a minute.

Here you go. If you guys want to get into launchers, take my advise on getting into paintball. It is nice to shoot at moving targets. Lots of fun for us Demo guys, sucks for the poor Tankers. They reak havoc on the field, until we show up, and put them out of play.

yeah, how violent was it when it blew, pvc has a tendance to become brittle with age. ABS plastic is better for that, and more flexible, if you hit pvc with a sledge hammer it will crush, if you hit abs it will bounce off and land on your foot LOL

the air sounds like a better idea for a project though, because you can get a constant pressure each time, vs propane wich differs depending on the oxygen and fuel ratio.

Wasnt as violent as i would have figured. Barrel seperated from the compression chamber. Could have been a lot worse.

Luckily I was using schedule 40 PVC. Air pressure can blow up too. If you pump so much air in there that it blows, it splinters and will make a real mess out of you. I hear the explosions will do the same, but most people i talk to use the air design. Mainly due to using it for paintball. Gotta be on the safer side while on the field of play.

That is why you use a pressure gauge when filing, and a pressure relief valve is a real smart ideal.

Getting ready to start my second air cannon. Back pack design. 4 inch compression chamber with a high pressor hose to about a 2 1/2 to three foot barrel. Hopefully gonna run a high pressure tank to it. Have a relief valve set to around 150 psi. 100 psi is around what I want to use for paintball rounds and nerf pocket vortex rounds.

Anyway, designing and building is half the fun of building these things.

Be safe guys.

Shhh! We're just going to assume I'm just awesome enough to get the right amount of fuel every time.

Got the supplies today, $52! Insane, but it should be fun. Anyways, I may go start building it in a minute, getting the valve setup and such all set, then it's just a matter of cutting the PVC.

Anyways, Mike, since I'm building tonight/early tomorrow afternoon, I won't need your help on that part, but a second person to help with the launching part would be great. Anyways, I'll IM you or something later and we can figure that out based on this soup kitchen thing and a party I gotta go to tomorrow night (finally, a renewed social life!).

I FULLY intend to get a couple quick clips of the 'tato launcher, stay tuned!

the soup kitchen thing is canceled tomorow, so im good, just dont know if im going to the junk yard or not.

ive always wondered what would hapen if it did blow, i wraped mine in lots of duct tape so it would have a "safety glass" effect (i hope)

sometimes i do not so smart stuff too, like shoot some propane down the barrel just to see the fire jet out the barel

Yo Mikey, since I know you'll check NICO as soon as you get online... wanna shoot this afternoon? My dad and I will probably be done building in 20 minutes or so, so then a couple hours to dry the PVC cement nice and good and it'll be good to go... guessing that it'll be ready to go about 3:30-4ish... IM me and/or call my cell and we'll figure it all out.

Basics: the SMHS cross country practice field, we'll take my dad's truck so we don't have to walk 2 miles to find a good spot, 3:30-4ish...

edit: Apparently my friend's estimates about how long PVC cement takes to dry were a bit off, drop an hour off of all that... it'll be more like 2:30 when it's ready to take out for testing.

Oh, and that **** will mess you up... dang, my head is all floaty after gluing everything together... oof... further reason as to why I don't do drugs...
