Thunderstorms took out my internet so it was time for something to do. With the FG project being wrapped around a C10a for the moment, I went ahead and put the TC 12" sub to use in my home system. Instead of building a new enclosure I simply swapped it into the JBL enclosure I am currently using. The JBL home sub is a 12" design with 250w. When I pulled the JBL sub I was hoping to see an ohm rating on the magnet but no luck, quick test with a multimeter showed 5.6ohm, so, 6ohm.

I installed the TC in parallel @ 2ohms for the moment . I will be changing it to series @ 8 ohm sometime today as the poor JBL amp will probably eat itself at that level. I watched a couple movies with it and it was a far improvement over the JBL sub. Further testing at greater volume will happen after I change it to series. Here's a couple pix:

One thing you have to watch out for though is that that TC9 is not an spl monster. It was designed for automotive use where you'll have alot of cabin gain.

The Xmax is "only" 18mm. No doubt this is about twice as much as the JBL it's replacing, but if you're looking to hit 20hz with authority that sub is not the right choice.

I'm aware. It's a moot point anyway. While rewiring to 8ohm the JBL sub amp did not like it and seems to have croaked on itself.

I should have left the damn thing alone.
