Finally nearing the release date.

I'm excited for Borderlands, because the world is in DIRE need of a Diablo-style coop RPG right now. Unfortunately, it seems like the genre is cursed at this point. Hellgate died, and Mythos with it. And Diablo III is a long way off. So it's very good that Borderlands is here to save us.

Even though it's a first-person game, a lot of it's gameplay features draw from Diablo. Weapons and enemies are randomly generated according to stats tables, and it's designed for 4 player coop.

This'll be a nice change of pace from the tiring slew of numbers-heavy mmos and jrpgs that seem to dominate the RPG landscape these days. Time to get back into some good old chaotic wade-through-masses fun.

I have enough faith in Gearbox to just buy it outright. They know what they're doing. Also noteworth is the fact that a lot of Gearbox's early work was porting PC games to PS2 or Xbox or the other way around (they did the PC version of Halo and the PS2 version of Half Life) and they've got a good track record there. I don't think the console versions will be broken ports like you might see from so many other developers these days.

I'm really liking the death system they've chosen for Borderlands. It's a take on the Gears of War buddy revive system, except that it's not so restrictive and doesn't leave you helplessly dependent on your allies. If you're "downed" and you kill your opponent, you can get back up (but gain no health) and escape/turn the tables/etc. I guess L4D is that way, too? Anyway, it seems like a fantastic way to promote teamwork without leaving solo or separated players completely crippled. It also seems like a good way to reward quick thinkers when things go south without warning.

I did see this before - I am kinda interested, but I feel like its going to be something I by post - holiday, considering everything that is coming out that I really want to buy...

I'm also going to wait for the review....its one of those games that looks really awesome, but could possibly suck at execution...

Borderlands is one of the reasons I bought a new computer. It and SCII...which got delayed. Of course.

I'd be happy with another fallout style game, only actually have it be fallout style, instead of Elder Scrolls in a post apoc world.
