Hi...Don't know if this will help but I bought a 1993 convert and it came with the boot..Two things were wrong right off..1st the rear plastic piece you talk about, even on mine has no visable place to hook it..I can snap the snaps, they r there, and push in the grove piece along the top of the back seat ok, But wtf does that plastic piece hook into..Well at first I didn't bother to hook it to anything (makes sense there's nothing to hook it to anyway) But I found it moves around with the wind and scaratched the top of that painted area just ahead of the trunk lid...Sooo.. I got this idea why not go to the local auto supply store and get a small roll of velcro comes as a complete kit both halfs cut it to the length I need it which was about 2 1/2 feet did the same with the furry side on the boot lined everything up and the boot now has something not only to rest on but that will hold it in place at the back end firmly..Then I noticed that the boot had weathered some and didn't have that rich shine that goes with a new boot,, I tried everything all the popular products and while some did make it look alittle better none of them really left the boot looking new...Then my buddy comes over one day and he's putting tire dressing on his wheels..WOW I got an idea..yes you guessed it...And man does it ever shine and has stayed that way ever since..I will caution you though put lots on with a sponge first let it soak in over night, THEN and this is important get a clean rag and wipe off the excess if you don't, and I didn't at first, the black from the tire dressing will get all over you and that's not nice..Anyway after that it looks real good like new and you really have to rub it to get anything on yourself. I do give it alittle touchup every now and again..So far and it's been two summers now it's held up nicely..Hope this helps...Regards Rick
