Hey Gang, There have been a lot of posts on here about wanting boots and some on even making them. Has anyone ever successfully replicated a boot and if so how'd it go? How's it look?

I'm the idiot who threw his away (perfect condition) because I just didn't know any better and now I want to fabricate one. Mine never fit very well but it seems that no one's did.

I was thinking of using the existing snaps and then using black vinal and some plastic stips to keep in place. I wanted to see if anyone else had explored the option. Sounds like anyone who does may create a cottage industry.

Thanks

I have never tried it, but the first thing that comes to mind is fiberglass. There is alot of info out there on how to duplicate car parts in fiberglass by making a mold and laying fiberglass in the mold to get an exact copy. My vert didn't come with a boot, so I am not sure how they attach, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. This forum helped me understand how to use fiberglass in an application such as this. Anyone who is interested should check it out.

alright then, I'm going to work on the boot. I had to buy some marine grade vinyl that looks like it could be strecthed to fit and have some snaps added. If I can fasten some plastic strips to it I could get it to stay underneath the existing rear deck area and not look like crap. We'll see...

i've been pondering the idea of boot replication for a while.

I know however that I lack the aptitude to actually fabricate anything myself.

I think the marine grade vinyl is the way to go. But, I'm not sure it can be made to fit and still look good.

Fiberglass would be awesome. Especially after getting painted to match your paint color.

Keep us all updated on your progress. But, tread lightly when preparing to sell them to others. Make sure I'm in the loop on that because I hate seeing Group Buys and special sales go sour. (ie. stickers)

Thanks guys!

I used the marine vinyl on my glovebox... it's pretty nice and it does stretch pretty easily, which is good.

Agreed on the sales part. I think if anyone is crazy enough to want to sell something on this board they better have lots of pics, are reachable, and willing to take it in the shorts on price. Face it, we're all as cheap as possbible.

If I do make one and can make them easily I'll send one to a member for a review then let the market decide.

I'm no fabricator but figure what the hell...
