All right you 5 speed swappers.........I got my new control lever boot, now....how am I supposed to get the boot on the stick????? I ripped the old one trying to get it up over the thick black part (top), and I am worried I will do the same thing with the new one. I don't think the black part screws off, or at least it didn't seem to want to. How did you guys do it?

control arm boot?

Are we talking about the shifter?.. What does a control arm have to do with the 5 speed swap?

If you're talking about the shift boot... the shifter knob will unscrew. Whoever put it on last must have used some lock-tight or something.

Here's the picture. That black thing is supposed to be screwed on, but I bet Nissan tighten it so hard you can't unscrew it. My guess is you have to lubricate the black thing, stretch the boot to pass it coming from the top. It's called a shifter boot. Control arm is a suspension component in 240 world.

I learned something new then... I've never heard a shifter being called a control lever.

You should have a boot on the bottom of the big black part or the "stick" that goes over top of the transmission you can secure that with a zip tie or whatever

Then you should have the second boot pictured on the right to keep out exhaust fumes and heat. It should slide over the hump in the black part "stick" It is held by 4 bolts.

Then you have the shift boot (the one you see all the time) leather.

He was talking about the shift knob should screw off not the silver piece out of the black piece on your "stick"

That is the boot I am talking about. The boot has to go past the black part to the bottom of the shifter onto the silver part. The diameter of the boot at the top is the same diameter as the silver part below the black part. I tore the old boot getting it up past the black part, and I don't want to tear the new one stretching it to the diameter of the black piece to put it on. Is that the way this boot is put on, forcing it to stretch over the black part?

I put dish soap on the black part and it slid right over it, no problem at all!
