I recieved my steering rack boots, and on the twist clamp there is an "O" ring... The FSM calls that a "Boot Band".

My question is, where does this "O" ring install?

On the tie rod, inside of the boot where the lip is?

Or, over the small end of the outside of the Boot?

I didn't see one when I took off the bad boot.

Since they call it a "Band", I would think it goes over the outside of the Boot, but it sure looks small...Can't find anything called a boot band in search...

I looked at that Picture also...But its not Clear if the Boot Band goes around the "Outside" of the Boot, in the groove on the small end, or on the "Inside" in the groove on the tie rod...and the Boot goes over it...If the Boot Band was larger, it would be no mystery...Dang thing is so small it seems like it would break if strecthed over the Boot end...

Anyway, I'm quitin' for today...

Hi. I've done the boots a short while back. The rubber "O" ring goes in the small end of the boot, in the outside of it where the groove is.I, like you, didn't think it will strech that far..... but, it will.

Good luck!

Yep, that seemed to be the "Logical" place for them...but dang they are small!

Thanks!

Now I can knock this job out and move on to the rear shocks.

done it several times (tkd's and mine), and it is tite but works sitting in the groove. suggest you leave the o-ring off until after you rethread your tie rod end, or do the o-ring, but leave the lock wire off. 20 ish full turns of the rod inside the boot when tensioned by the o-ring can;t be good.....

don't forget to loop the lockwire around twice, stick in a #2 or #3 phillips thru the 2 rings, pull and twist 'er down (but not TOO tite). professional lockwire made easy......
