I have about 88k on the sohc and im going to compression test it and if good then im going to boost it. for the past few days ive been doing some research as in boosting the sohc. im not looking for much hp just something decent. do anybody have any ideas on wat set up i should run.. im looking to get about 250-300hp and try to hit mid 13s. i was also lookin at manifolds. and i saw that jgs has a pretty decent manifold but i tried researching and see how ppl like them but didnt come up with anything. is anybody runnin it on there car and how do u like it. also wat other mani are there. thanks alot

Well since you have been doing your research i'll throw some info at ya.

The jgs manifold is good.. he made something like 350 HP with on his SOHC. If you can weld... just get the kit and then you can place the turbo flange where you want.

Jordan gladman sells a SOHC manifold every now and then. Alot of SOHC guys including me run them... 3 years later and its still fine. Search ebay and the forums for this one.

You can get the DP with the jgs mani or make your own. Its not that hard to do if you can weld.

Fuel injectors (top Feed) can be sourced from many difference places. The most common ones used for the SOHC are mazda rx-7 460cc -550cc injectors. They are direct drop into the SOHC rail and are also high impedence so no resistors are needed.

Theres a sticky around here on the turbo feed and return lines with a how to article and all the part #'s in it.

If you want a FMIC just get ebay and make your own pipes.

Get a BOV

You will need some sort of engine management. For your power goals, (which will change once you feel the boost) you should start out with just a safc II and retard base timing a little. That will keep the engine safe in boost but still be a fun DD. You can also do the the ROM tuning on the SOHC much easier than the DOHC if you want more info on that go to http://www.eccs.hybridka.com

Get a few gauges to monitor whats going on with the engine. oil pressure, boost, engine temp oil temp if you want.

You will need a stronger clutch. I recommend the act SS clutch.. they are known for being really strong and take alot of power.

I'm sure I forgot alot of stuff but since you have been searching the forums you have a good idea of what you need.

Good luck! Let's see another boosted KA24E

The sohc can make pretty good power on a stock motor so don't listen to what everyone else is saying. Do what makes you happy man.

Not sure if you have read this thread yet but it's very usefull and will let you know alot more than just my post.

I have been running boost on my stock sohc for the past 10K miles. The motor now has 144K on it and still runs strong. The motor just loves boost. Here are a few pics of the motor i am swapping in next week. It is mostly stock. Just a fresh motor. Hope this inspires you to build the sohc. The best thing about the motor is that they are under estimated and you can pick up a extra one for next to nothing. The one in the pic i got for a extra fender i had. Of course it needed a rebuild because it had high miles. Have fun with your project.....i did.....as long as it starts

Getting close to swap time. :D

didn't a guy running like 20 psi from a huge *** turbo (red pignose w/ huge FMIC) throw a rod and the engine was still running? Goes to show the ka24E only needs 3 pistons /rods.

maybe the DE throws rods out of the block because of the DE oil squirters... there too much lube on the rods so they just launch out the side of the block. (sarcasm)

Thats probably a tuning error though. Detonation can be kept at bay with good tuning.

Hey the SOHC is a great motor to boost and even run on E85. But what they do best is send a car into a wall at 80mph trust me.

You know you love me :p. But back on topic I think the SOHC is a great motor boost, and it is sooo easy to tune and up keep.

Wow, i'm glad to find people that love their sohcs too. I finally got mine running fairly good, with over 200k. I seriously love the pull...I'm starting to feel like a drug addict (I honestly can't go 12 hours without driving it, i tried once) Is it bad for me to love torque this much? btw, How much have you guys picked up your KA24E's for?

i absoutly love my sohc, and ive been trying to go boost for about a year now but everytime i get money up to start buying stuff, something blows up or goes wrong like bald tires - 320.00 plus mount+balance, or like my newest one, blown engine.....lol

blew a headgasket about 6 miles from my house and had my girl and baby in the car so i drove it home instead of stopping (at 9pm in new hampshire on windy roads) and, well, no antifreeze in my cooling system, all out of motor and inside engine...

so back to sqare one...used rebuilt motor lol.

but it ran all the way home, and if i went outside right now itll start up, knocks hard but itll start!!

Hey, I don't mean to thread jack, but where do you live Lucky? I live in Bedford, MA around Billerica and Lowell and stuff. Let me know if you're down for getting some people together because I'm unfamiliar with the area and don't know many people because I live on Hanscom AFB.

I wonder what their two types of rods are made to handle, power wise...
