heres my problem. If im driving through town and try to boost it cuts out really bad for a second and if i keep accelerating it clears up and boosts fine and if im on the highway and try to boost from fifth it will cut out for a couple seconds then it will clear up but if i downshift to third or fourth it boosts fine... any suggestions?

What spark plugs do you have and what fuel pump? I drove around for a little while with my stock fuel pump and it acted like that.

.....

why would you try to boost from fifth? Do you have a 6 speed?

If your car is a 5 speed try to avoid boosting in 5th gear, if not for mechanical stability but for fuel reliability. It is mostly a cruising gear, not intended for a lot of acceleration. You won't build a lot of good boost quickly in 5th anyway.

Do you have a boost controller that you can see for sure that it's not building boost properly? And if so, around what RPMs does it get out of vacuum (Say going from 2nd to 3rd gear for instance) and start building boost, and when does it peak?

Also, your problem is more than likely your fuel pump. You won't boost properly if you can't get enough fuel to balance out the compressed air. Put the 255 in & then let us know if you still have a problem.

Yea you really need to put that pump in, when I pulled my stock pump out it was caked in rust.

Maybe, MAYBE when the stocker is brand new its ok for at the max 200WHP, but add in more then a hundred thousand miles of use, running low on gas and rust and dirt, the stocker is hurting.

Get it in asap

I don't try to boost in fifth gear i live in Kentucky and there is alot of hills. I just meant in fifth when put under a load and the turbo starts to spool it cuts out. Not sure of rpm cause tach dont work. I have a boost controller but it's not installed. I'll put the pump in this weekend and see how that works

I drive on backroads and boost in 5th all the time. Never caused any problems. And to the guy above, you build more boost at a lower rpm because the car is seeing more load at a higher numerical gear. I can hit 7psi @ 2200rpm in 5th.

To the OP, does it do it in any other gear besides 5th?

It will do it in every gear if it starts to boost at low rpm

Install the 255 pump. Dump the iridium plugs. Install NGK Copper plugs. Re-test.

What does your wideband say when your having issues?

Okay, so:

1.) Stock Fuel Pump2.) No Boost Controller3.) No Wideband.

Fix #1 (255lph pump), look into installing #2 (prevent boost spike and ensure you're at ~7psi for stock turbo), and look into checking everything out with #3 to make sure your A/F is okay so you will know you're getting enough fuel.

Should fix most of the issues. If not, let us know

My boost controller (HKS EVC 6) will read right at -9.5 in vacuum at about 700 idle. I couldn't tell you if this is bad or not, but I never boost spike and never exceed 6.9 or 7 PSI when set to 7 PSI.

You're running on s*** plugs, a s*** pump, and no monitoring devices.

most of these things are stuff you should have done while doing the swap...like when you didn't have the fuel lines connected anyway. Now you have to disconnect them. Also, while we're at it, do you have a FPR (fuel pressure regulator)?

Might want to pick one of those up and an in-line gauge so you can see your adjustments and ensure you have the right fuel pressure since it's all the same type of install anyway.

I haven't actually watched my Boost gauge recently, though I will when I take my next trip across town, but I don't think I ever see a Vac. anywhere near -15...On idle (700rpms) It's usually about -9.2 to -9.5. I'm not really sure where it should be, but like I've said I've never had a problem with this controller.
