i just bought an 89 240sx with a turbo ka24de swap.. it ran fine when i bought it.. i was driving it one day and blew the intercooler piping off of the intercooler, drove it home and parked it.. the next day i started it up to get it off the curb, got under it put the piping back on and went to start it again and nothing happened.. since then i have replaced the ignition control module and sparkplugs and i have gotten it to start but it backfires every second and will not rev over 2000 rpm, im at a loss and have no idea what to do.. please help me!!!

From the sound of it you managed to throw the car into limp mode from running with unmetered air. Additionally hopefully you didn't damage the engine sucking unfiltered air in when you started up. Not all that familiar with the 240's, but I'd say at this point it wouldn't hurt to try disconnecting the battery for 5 mins to clear the computer. If it is in a limp mode, hopefully that'll clear it out.

Let's get someone in here that knows the 240 a little better than I to clarify on what i said, shall we?

Disconnect battery. LEt ecu reset. See what happens. Sound like fouled plugs bad plug or somehting along that line or a sensor came loose. You got gas? Last person who couldn't get their ka-t to start after popping off an IC was out of gas...

Check your plugs and let us know what color they are; white you ran it lean and black sooty and you were running hella rich ,either way they will need replacing. When you pop a pipe it screws up your air fuel mixture expecially with you driving it home with the pipe off. Also check to makesure you dont have another pipe off that you didnt see at first. Hit us back up with the new info and we will help you out, but need more info for a diagnoses...

how would i go about checking if an injector goes bad or breaks.. because what you say happened with yours sounds like whats happening with mine.. except for the other day.. i took off all the wires and put them back on making sure that they all made a good connection with the plugs.. i jumped it off and while the jumper cables were hooked up it ran alright, i revved it up, it got up to about 4000 rpm, no backfiring or anything, but as soon as i took the jumper cables off and started to back it up it started screwing up again.. idk if that helps at all but thats all i know so far

Check all your grounds. Sounds like ground problem and alternator is bad or realy/fuse/wire

if it helped when you jumped it... i would check grounds like he said and make sure the wires arent coroded and check the resistance on the ground wire and power wire.... and if one is real high than check for corosion

what i did to check injectors was i took number 4 and 3 our and then sapped them... and the problem moved to number 4 and i knew it was the injector

Make sure you have a fully charged battery and that the alternator is charging. Check your timing aswell.

Hmm.So this is some what confusing since 2 of plugs are fouled.Think logically what could be causing those two cylinders to run with excess/unburned fuel? It can't be fuel injector related since it's two cylinders. It probably isn't fuel supply related since it's only 2 and not all 4.

I'd make sure they are getting spark first.

1.Clean the plugs up (electrode etc) and then put them in their proper wire.

2. Lay the plugs on something metal without paint on it so that the threads of the spark plugs are touching the metal.

3. Have some one start the car while you watch the spark plugs and see if you can see any sparks.

If they are getting spark then I would be scared as the only other thing might be they two cylinders don't have compression.

But I'm an newb.

i had a camaro that was like that an my spark plug wires melted alittle on the headers so when it ran like crap an i checked all the plugs i couldnt tell anything but i finally looked at it in the dark and i could see that it was sparking in the middle of the wire so maybe if you go out and buy some new wires. and i also sounds like you might have a bad battery or alternater. you can go buy a battery test for like 20 bucks and see if your battery is holding enough juice to keep your car running.
