im doing a t3/t4 based topmount setup on my ca. its stock internally, and will be setup with fmic, 3" exhaust, upgraded fuel pump, aluminum radiator, basic upgrades, etc. im going with the top mount setup more for space savings then power at this point. i was just wondering what turbo you recomend, i already have the manifold for the the t3/t4 type turbo so something in that family.

here is one i was looking athttp://www.mjmturbos.com/T3-63-60.htm

what do you think? anybody deal with mjm turbos before?

thanks, mike

That combination may work on the street, but I'm not familiar with that turbo company or what particular blower that is. Just because someone offers a decent price, doesn't necessarily mean that it will survive the abuse. Check and see what type of guarantee they offer. And BTW, how much are they asking for this thing?

399 plus shipping, they are local to me so i was thinking about just going for a ride.

do you have any places you recomend? im running on a low budget here, its either go n/a with a standalone, or turbo with the stock ecu.

i say turbo with the stock ecu, cause i need to buy a turbo, downpipe-exhaust, intercooler piping, some sort of wastegate, wether its internal or external, fuel system, etc.

i got a few grand to spend, if anyone wants to help me head in the right direction i would appreciate it. i got in a bit over my head with this project, and i just want to get it done.

I say get the standalone and upgrade the engine later. Of course the engine of choice would be the CA18DET and the DE (it bites). The stock CA and some 550cc injectors and a standalone is good recipe for street rapeage of a lot of small car and some of the big bad ones too. Been there and done that! Kills will include: AudiTT, honda S2K, turbocharged IS300, and a few others I don't car to mention. A fresh T25 can get you good power at or around 13psi as well.

For $399 and all you get is a straight T3? I would spend the extra $190 and get a nice T3/T4 50-trim. I know cheapturbo.com has em all the time and even have a 0.48 A/R turbine to help keep spool nice and low. Personally I would still go with the 0.63 housing as a little lag is nothing to cry about and you'll appreciate the top end better.

i wish it was that eazy. i cant use the stock t25, for one its got lots of shaft play so id have to buy another one, 2. it doesnt fit due to the steering box location on a 72 datsun. i wish this thing was rhd, it would save me a lot of trouble.

so, on goes my trouble

Ok your recommendation doesnt so good, but i'm also looking to upgrade big and reliable as well, and i'm planning to use 450cc injectors, and one of my friends is questioning the engine's capability to manage that amount of pressure. Is that really going to be a problem, especially for his 550cc setup?

How much pressure are we talking? have your friend ever owned one of these engines? Or does people rely on heresay. It is a very capable engine. What type of power are you looking to achieve?

He has a bolt-up turbo swift, with a GTI engine and a T3/T4 ball bearing turbo on it, and he's using around 270cc injectors on his engine(going to put on 370cc soon).

And i'm not saying the engine isnt capable Dee, he's just wondering about if using the 450cc injectors would be managed properly without having to get a new computer or something.

The answer to how much power i want is in a new post, because i said some more stuff, didnt really want to start a new post, but dont want to deviate from CA18DATSUN topic too much.

And by the way for the previous post:

it should have stated that your recommendation "does" sound good, my apologies.
