How do you guys tap into the boost/vacuum source going to the FPR? I took a look at it and there doesn't seem to be much room to do much of anything back there?!?! I could only see where it connects to the FPR, is there a better place along this line to tap into? I couldn't see enough to allow me to trace it anywhere? Or do you normally just remove the hose directly from the FPR and put the T in there and join it back up? I took a look at the FSM but the diagram is not very good and I couldn't follow it's path. I know it goes back to the throttle body somewhere but this doesn't look like it's easily accessable either with out removing things.

Was looking at it over the weekend and also noticed a small hose that's connected to the intake manifold right next to where the large brake booster hose is connected. What is this smaller one used for (couldn't see to trace it back) and can it be used as a boost/vacuum source? Couldn't find anything in the FSM to indicate what it's for.

Any pics of where you t-ed into would be appreciated.

Thanks

You just have to get your hands in there, cut it, pull it off, whatever works for you. Tee it off and hook it back up. That's the place that you want your signal line coming from.

I don't know what the small hardline is for, you could tee that off, put a boost/vac on it and see what it does.

Check out Fiznat's teardown of the intake mani

maybe that'll answer you questions.

why don't you tee off the brake booster line instead. its easier to access and probably gives a stronger signal.

What's the inside diameter of that hose. Just wondering what size tee I would need to get.

Also, there is a hose that connects to the intake manifold right next to the brake booster, what is this line used for and is it suitable? I'll see if I can get a pic tonight to show which one I'm talking about.

its 3/8" but you can get a universal tee from any auto parts store that lets you tee it to 1/4" or 1/8" which is what most vac sources need

The vaccum source for the stock FPR is that little nipple that you mentioned in the second part of your post. Its a tight space I know, but if you follow the vaccum line off of the FPR, it will lead directly to that thin vaccum nipple next to the brake booster.

What are you trying to get a vaccum source for? If it is for your BOV, I would not reccomend using your FPR line. Just for the sake of neatness, you can use the charcoal canister vaccum line instead, which is much closer to where your BOV is probably located (cold pipe?). The charcoal vaccum line is one of those metal tubes directly below the throttle body. I beleive it is either the farthest left of 2nd to left. It just makes sense using this one cause you can cut down on the vaccum line you use and its just neater.

I dont reccomend using the brake booster either, because as you mentioned the diamater is much bigger than what you would need for a BOV or whatever else. You can get reducing T connectors like drifteador mentioned, but there really is no reason to go through all that when there are other redially available vaccum sources. Not to mention the brake booster line is probably one of the worst lines to mess with because if for some reason your connection is bad or you lose vaccum somehow, your brake pedal will suddenly become much less effective.

Good luck on your work man, keep us updated!

Thanks for the responses guys, great help.

Fiznat, for right now I'm just hooking up a boost gauge (doing my install in stages to minimize downtime) so I'll probably use the frp line for this and use the charcoal line for the bov (when I get to that point), thanks for recommending that.

Just to clarify, took a pic of the line that i was refering to in my first post. Could you confirm that this is the fpr line?

Thanks again for all the help.

you'd notice if you had a leak. if youre using something like a vac manifold you'll want to tap from a bigger line. the tiny fpr line wont suffice. imo, looks alot cleaner than multiple tee's

hey fiz, would any of the three lines that run to the top of the carbon canister suffice as a vac source for the BOV? or is there a specific one?

There is a specific one. I forget exactly what they are each for, but one of them is definitely a vaccum source while the other two are not. I beleive it is the farthest to left but I'm not sure. I will check and let you guys know.
