Ive been searching for a while and still dont have a full definition of a "PILL".

Heres where im at

-restiction that slows boost "signal to the factory boost solenoids
-these solenoids allow for stock boost psi to be higher that spring rating allowing for LIMP mode of lower boost psi
^ ex: normal boost 11psi /ecu finds problem misfire etc./solenoid shuts spring actuates at 7psi

-some seem to believe that the pills actually raise boost psi?
-I did a simple test and found with and without it opened at the same psi. Begins to open at 5 psi full open at exactly 8. That kind of kills that theory to me even tho subie guys have some convincing info....

-I thinking that its there to slow boost to make for more streetable power. OR its to prevent boost creep by slowing wastegate "sensing".

_either way its a pretty sketchy subject SR guys and subie guys go nutz over it to no AVAIL no answers at all i followed quite a few threads and it always comes to ..... :bs:

I guess this could end up boiling down to very by manufacture ...lets try to stick with usdm nissan 300zx etc..

I just dont want this to turn into EX: jdm hearsay that sr stock boost is 14,11,7,14.5 depends on blacktop redtop notchback, pre redtop, stock trim, evap lines, diff. solenoids, t25, t28, blaa blaablaa IT GOES ON FOR EVER.... . . . . . . .Not trying to start a rant on that^ example

Wait, you mean a boost controller?

Hmm interesting.

They might have them to prevent boost spike, like you said.

I more or less said it makes wastegate open slower not -not open which id call a boost spike?

Or possibly they cause boost spike ! if you go to wot back to back since it slows waste opening maybe they contribute!!!

Or were both off and boost spike is from when a turbine flows more than the waste can bypass causing a rise in boost even tho the wastegate is open. <that wouldnt just happen tho???(google search says- spike is from slow responsive wastegate ex: if you hit wot and your waste is 12 and you shoot up to 13-14 before your wastegate opens fully)

BUMP for more info.

A restriction or "pill' in the vacuum line simply slows down how quickly the wastegate will see the vac signal. All wastegates creep open as boost comes on, unless they use a boost controller that stops the vac signal from getting to the wastegate until the desired boost pressure.

The "pill" in line is an old trick. It can be replicated several ways and actually creates more usable power since the wastegate doesn't open early bleeding off boost. You just need to delay the vac signal from reaching the wastegate. The easiest way is install a soup can, or can of your choice, inline between the vac source and the wastegate. This will basically stop the boost creep until full boost is actually reached.

^well that settles that!

subie guys dont know nothin including their forums and dealer tech line

......heres what they said( "if subaru engineers put it there its there for a reason leave it") Me: ok but can you describe why their even used or their function ("that is a question for the engineers" ) Me: so i should just leave it and tell customer to leave it ( "Yes") Me: well thanks allot bro.......that helped the field tech a bunch now i fully understand that component.

Thanks again WD just tryin to hammer out facts bugs me not fully understanding components.

To continue this boost control related thread how about how to determine the exact boost psi a wastegate is set at?
For instance i have a wastegate actuator off of a 2005 baja subie turbo 2.5 that im going to try to frankenstein to my series 2 rb25 scroll flappers there but assembly gone  . SUCKS but riggit right

I used a air regulator and an aftermarket boost gauge T'd to determine when it opens fully and where it begins. (5 begin-8full)

Is it safe to say that the psi that it takes to open the wastegate actuator fully will be your "wastegate pressure".

Reason being i read they are 11.5 from factory but it has a "boost control solenoid" so im assuming that is essentially a boost controller.

OR is it simply going to be strap it on and go do a pull and thats your psi. then mess with the wastegate arm to fine tune(bleedoff/tighten) and boost controller of course to raise and help prevent turbo lag from wastegate openin partially early.

At the same rate EMUSA wastegates sound promising and come in low boost pressures that i need for my limited budget for the build. 60$ FTW right but the subie one was FREE from werk ehh keep up the input im tryin to get this thing rollin by MARCH im close!!!!!!
