I just installed my Greddy Boost gauge and was wondering if im getting good reading. Here they are:

idle-500mmhg1st gear-.6 bar2nd gear-.6 bar3rd gear- .6 with a spike to .7 bar

are they about right? im at stock boost.

hmm....I don't know how much 500mm hg translates to, but in idle, I think it should read 0 or extremely close to 0

What? No at idle you should read near the bottom 20in/hg in standard. If it reads close to 0 then you have a massive air leak. So you are good. .6 is a little more than half a bar. uumm one bar is 14.7 divide that in half and you have 7.35psi. Which is where the stock acuator opens. So you are good to go!

P.S. Greddy gauges are almost never inacurate thats why you pay the extra $$$

im kinda worried. my gauge reads a constant .7 bar in 3rd gear pulls is this normal for the stock turbo and stock boost. im on my stock fuel pump but i just ordered a walbro.

Do you have an S14 motor? Or S14 turbo/actuator combo?

I've never heard of it spiking like that on the stock turbo/actuator unless there is a problem with the vaccum line or something. However, my friend has an S14 motor and after removing the boost solenoid, like most people do, it runs up to about .7bar without a boost controller at all. Even more when it's cold out.

i have a s13 black top and its humid as hell out. does this mean i have a vaccum leak? its sits a 500mmhg during idle very steadily.

I too have a Greddy Boost Gauge and the 500 mmHg is a correct number for idle but you should be reading .5 bar all the way through. When I take off my boost controller it always goes to .5 bar never higher or less. Like everyone else is saying do you have an actuator in there?

i belive its the stock actuator. It looks stock atleast - no brands or emblems. Is this a good or bad thing? I guess its good b/c its makin me faster but I dont want it to lead to problems.

As long as your not heatsoaking your sidemount IC. Otherwise I wouldnt worry about it, just put the walbro in!

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but i didn't want to start a new one...

ummm... my question is, when my car is in neutral i rev it up to redline a few times and my boost gauge reads from 500 whatever to 0 is this suppose to happen? i can hear my bov and turbo spooling so that must mean i'm creating boost in neutral but how come it only reads up to 0? but when i'm in gear it reads fine?

you don't create boost in neutral...ok, I learnt something today. So that means I can still blow my engine in neutral but my turbo won't boost it's death. (No I'm not gonna test that theory.)

So, you press gas. Your revs are goin up, the turbo is spooling, air is moving through the turbo system, WHY, isn't it creating boost pray tell? Does the turbo system say, whoops, in neutral, no boost, or is it the wastegate, or how about you just explain it to me?

Yinno, you have to ask questions to learn.

when you sitting with no load on the engine, the engine can easily take the extra airflow created by the turbo. when your driving, the engine is under load, and has a harder time with the extra pressure and allows the intake tract to pressurize with the air it can't take in.

I thought it creates boost but like you said about load not enough to do anything unless under it....
