I'm pretty much clueless on how to install this boost gauge. I got it from a friend in exchange for my old KA radiator, and all I got was the gauge, no instructions or anything. I'm assuming the two wires are power and ground, so I should ground the black wire, but what should I run the white wire to?? Also, where should I tap the vacuum line for the gauge?? I saw in a couple other threads that I could T off the vacuum for the fuel pressure regulator, or maybe the BOV; what about this mystery vacuum line?? I have no clue where it goes and I have it ghetto-rigged right now with a screw plugging it up just so the car will run, can I run that vacuum line to the boost gauge??

hmm. I can't tell from the pic what that line is.

that is where you T in. you will need to buy a T and some vaccuum hose (it is a hard but bendable plastic tubing) You should be able to get at Autozone.

White wire is + an you can run it to any wire that comes on when the key is on (it is just a light, and the gauge will work with out it, you just won't be able to see it in the dark)

Black wire is ground.

Good trade, that gauge is around $40 bucks. (I have it in my TII RX-7)

Cool thanks.

Any clue where that vacuum line I pictured is supposed to go?? It's awfully small in diameter and I can't see anything near it for it to go onto...

I just edited the above comment. I am not sure from that picture. When in doubt, cap it :) they sell rubber vaccum line plugs at autozone as well.

So I T'ed off some 1/8" nylon tubing from that hose you showed me coming from the BOV, and as the car runs, right now the gauge is reading all the way down into the vacuum. When I goose the throttle it jumps up, but then as I hold the throttle steady it falls all the way back down into vacuum. My intercooler is leaking so I figure maybe that's the reason??

You should see vaccuum at idle, so that is a good thing. My 25 boost to 8 pounds with my current exhaust. I am not sure what you should see on the 20.

yes if your IC is leaking that would probably explain the drop in boost. You need to get your IC fixed, so you can start driving :)

Mine reads at vacuum as much as 25 psi also until you get on the throttle. I have the electronic gauge and I checked the peak boost and it went all the way up to 14 psi going hard on the throttle at 4th gear to fifth. I will have to set the alarm at lower level, maybe 9 psi.

how are you getting 14 psi? do you have a boost controller? I have never hit more than 9.

No, no boost controller. Just stock turbo, waste gate, boost solenoid, etc. I plumbed the gauge from the little nipple located from the back of the stock intake manifold.

THREAD RESURRECTION

Any suggestions on where exactly to run the wire for the boost gauge?? I know it's just a little light bulb with just power and ground, but I don't want to run it to a circuit that might end up causing problems. I was thinking about running it to the 12V ignition wire since it's just a small light bulb and it wouldn't place much electrical load on the wire....

If you can get at the dimmer switch, get the power from there. That way when you turn on your lights the light for the gauge(s) will light up.

Thanks for that suggestion, worked like a charm :)

Hey Project240, can you tell me exactly which wire you tapped it into at the dimmer switch, there are like 6 of them.

i wired all my gauges to a manual switch that i can flip when the car is off or on. i don't know why i did this, but it works pretty well. I can turn all the gauges on with the car off....though it really provides no information for me besides water temp on a car thats not running.

P.S. that vacum line in your picture is where we run our boost gauges off of. i think maybe it was put there to run to a sending unit for the boost gauge in the skyline cluster.

Didn't help MY question, but good info. :)
