boost fuel cut?

hi i was looking through some old posts and saw a mention of a boost fuel cut and was wondering:does the ecu recognize boost/from where? also what is that adjustment on the side of the ecu for?

the ecu has no way of measuring boost pressure per say but rather airflow, when boost gets to a certian ammount and the maf voltage hits 4.08v it does the awesome rich and retard thing.the dial is for idle but mainly for accessing diagnostics.
